    Hello
I am 22 years old and come from a traditional southindian family. My family all ladies wear mookuthis. I got my mookuthi whan I was 12 years old. Now my marriage has been fixed and my mother and mother-in-law are telling me to get mookuthi on other nostril. Also I am wearing one stone on my right nostril. My mother is telling me to wear a bigger mookuthi.
For my marriage my mother has bought a ettu kallu mookuthi and my mother-in-law is buying one large diamond with 5 pendants. My husband is also insisting on two mookuthis.
Ithink it is very old fashioned. I told my mother I will wear the ettu kallu mookuthi for the marriage but all are forcing me to wear one more. I dont remember the first mookuthi and I am scared of another one.

I hate pierced noses. It looks ugly and primitive. My mil insisted and had mine pierced and removed it after I got married.

The date has been fixed for piercing left side of nose. Next week asari is coming. For one week now I am wearing ettu kallu besthri on my right side. When my mother put it in it was paining too much. My marriage is next month. My MIL is very happy but my friends are all teasing me. They are saying I am looking old with besthri. With one more mookuthi I will look even older. My MIL showed me the mookuthi she has made for me. My husband to be is 8 years older than me so my mother says it is okay for me to look little older. I belong to Gounder community and my father is very strict. We are scared talking to him.

Iam studying but I told my mother if she insisting on one more mookuthi, i will stop going to college. Many girls in my college wear nose studs but no one is wearing two. I want to study and work but no one is agreeing to my working. I will finish in May. How to tell my MIL I will pierce left side after college? I agree to piercing left side also but after college. My SILs all wearing rettai mookuthi but they are all older. My husband is only son after 4 girls. I suggested clip on for marriage but MIL is not agreeing. My husband also insisting on piercing before marriage because his mother insisting. Please help me.

Re: Ettukkallu Besthri Potta Eduppa Irukkum Mookku..

I am with you. I think it is a disgusting habit. I don't understand why some people love it. And why men have a say in this. They don't go through the process.

Re: Ettukkallu Besthri Potta Eduppa Irukkum Mookku..

Nice thread, my story is different

once our family went to pazhani murugan temple, i was 4 yrs old. in the upstairs i got a gold thirugani its really a big one n i gave it to my father. he was surprised n told me gods grace u got this.........

After returning home he took me his friends home..........his friend changed the thirugani into a beautiful nose stud n pierced my nose with a big needle:-:)-(OMG i was crying crying, then everybody gave me a lot of dishes, fruits, choclates to eat to control my tears:biglaugh

Then my father took me in front of a mirror and told c the mirror my little darling, now u r the beautiful girl in the world then y r u crying.........:) how cute he made me to smile.....

My teachers loves me to c with my nose pierced in 1std itself, so i was little proud of that......

Now am wearing a diamond, but Till now am keeping that first nose stud with me:thumbsup

My friend has been living abroad ever since she got married and her daughter was born and brought up there. Recently they moved here to India.

The story is exactly the reverse in their house. The mom is very modern and the daughter is fond of dressing up ethnically and she absolutely insisted that she wanted to have her nose pierced. After all these days, we finally took her to the jeweller's shop and she had her nose pierced with a shotgun.

It was quite funny - as the time to pierce came, she was holding my hand really tight. both i and my friend looked away the other side. finally the deed was done. she had a couple of minutes of pain, after which she kept running to the mirror in the shop to look at herself. Even after coming home, she could not stop. It was so nice to see her really happy and excited. Though, I think she is pretty brave. How on earth could one have the guts to submit oneself to some such thing?

I am truly surprised to see the number of stories on nose piercing.I am really flabbergasted to

see the custom of piercing both the nostrils still exists. 14 years back I had to literally fight

with my father to get my nose pierced. My mother endured a good dose of my father's anger

for supporting me. In the place where we lived, piercing nose faded away with grannies' age.

Even at the goldsmith's place, two village women commented to my father,"Anna, nose

piecing is out of fashion, You know."

Among my classmates, among my peer group relatives I was and am always the odd one

out , thanks to my nose pin.At the day of my marriage , along with my diamond nose pin,

I sported a press-up natthu and bullakku. One of my aunts gave me a look, "This girl must

be out of her wits and surely has no sense of fashion."
