    Dear TDU
V may have many meanings but in Tamilnadu, Periyar's Vengayam and MGR's Rettai Ilai changed the history of Tamilnadu for ever.

    Dear Sri,

"When you see geese flying along in "V" formation, you might consider what science has discovered as to why they fly that way. As each bird flaps its wings, it creates an uplift for the bird immediately following. By flying in "V" formation, the whole flock adds at least 71 percent greater flying range than if each bird flew on its own"....

I read this.... When I read this, it reminded me of your sign language class... So thought will be useful...

But, I never thought for V, I will get so many explanations, research and re-research etc....

    Let the class continue.....

    Dear Sri,
    Some "V" proverbs in tamil:

    விட்டதடீ ஆசை விளாம்பழத்து ஓட்டோடே

    விமானத்தில் வேசி போனாள் என்று
    தெருவழியே திருடி போகலாமா?

    விதிச்சவன் கண்ணுக்கு விளக்காய் எரிவாள்

    விதி உள்ள அகமுடையானுக்கு ரதியாக இருப்பளாம்

    விதை முந்தியா, மரம் முந்தியா?

    Love,
    Chithra.

    Dear Cheeniya sir,

I am amused to find that there are two ways of showing the V sign. I am giving below the photo where Winston Churchill is showing both signs and the meaning of the signs are different in U.S and U.K.

The age-old ‘V sign’ comes in two formats: one with the palm faced outwards, and one with the palm inwards. In America the two hand signals mean the same thing – ‘victory’, as popularised by Richard Nixon, or ‘peace and love’, which seemed to become the primary meaning after anti-Vietnam protesters used it during the 60s.

However, if the outside of your hand is facing your target, you’re giving somebody a long-established insult in Great Britain and many English-speaking countries such as Australia, Ireland and New Zealand. Winston Churchill famously used the ‘incorrect’ version of the V sign during the early years of the war, switching round later when he’d been told by his advisors that he wasn’t exactly giving the lower social orders a positive message. The V sign is also considered rude in Italy, especially if you place your nose between the two fingers, making the gesture resemble a crude vagina.

I myself have almost seen a fight start as a result of an American tourist ordering drinks in an English pub: when asked how many pints he wanted, he simply stuck two fingers up and looked straight into the eyes of the barman – perfectly normal on the other side of the Atlantic (it’s actually the signal for the number 2 in American Sign Language), but it’s fighting talk to the British.

    Regards,

    TDU

    'v' list is growing!
I want to add one more to it. it is not connected to the 'saappaaddu' list.
But this belongs to the 'beauty' list.
How come everybody forgot about the signal in the 'Veet" ad. for 'double smooth'.
