I was watching a TV programme on Jaya TV the other day .I really found it absurd. It was regarding the best singers, best dancers and best entertainers. My God, you should say the youngsters' faces when the results were being announced. Some of them were kneeling and praying, some were closing their eyes and chanting mantras for their favourite gods. This is not the be all and end all of life.Even the parents were tense.I wonder why. There was lot of excitement and emotions thrown up.This is not the spirit. The children should be made tp participate in something which they enjoy and not to get dejected when they do not win.Everyone cannot be a winner and those who do not win are not losers. It is parents duty to teach the spirit of competing in such competitions and not lose heart when they do not win.If they get dejected in losing in such small competitions how will they face more tough and serious situations.Life is a game and allow the children to enjoy it when they are budding............. Please let the little ones enjoy life in its true sense........

    Kanaka,
What you have written is true! I know that you remember an instance here in US where the parents of the rival teams ended up in fighting and the end result, i don;t remember. So they had banned parents attending for some of the sports, here.
The 'sportmanship' attitude is slowly disappearing. It is sad!

    Dear Kanaka,

You are right... The kids are put to lot of unwanted tension... The parents feel if their kids participate, they have to win.... The sportive spirit is lost...

I still remember how my daughter reacted... She participated in one singing competition in Bahrain... But she didnt get anything... But she was all crying... and she refused to participate in any competion further... I always used to tem my kids, it is not that you have to win... But you have to perfor to your best... you should be happy that you have tried with sincereity and enarnestness.. It took a long time for her to come out of it...

My son on the contrary, though has a good voice, will not sing... Though he learnt key board and can play well, he will not.... Because his sister does better than him... He cant accept it... We have to push him to do things....

So, I tell my kids, whatever they do, they should enjoy doing it and they should put their best efforts...

    Hi,
    Very true.
Sometime parents expect too much from kids.
We should take the things lighter and teach kids to take in a right spirit.

These days there are programs on performers who are already established in the industry...on these shows too their attitude is very childish when they see themselves in the red.

Many a times the judges also put undue pressure on them...leave alone the parents.

    Dear Kanaka

I agree towhat Puni has written. Now a days the parents only spoil the children. They compare their children to other children and want their children to compete with them'
U cant expect every child to be smart and have the capacity. It all depends in their upbringing and the surroundings.

    Dear kanaka,

You should watch some Malayalam Reality Shows. Tears in the eyes of the judges. The whole stage appears like a condolence place. Even the background music will be sorrowful.
Last week one lady had her hands on her head and wept bitterly since her daughter was to be eliminated. Looks like there is something at stake. Then somebody from the crowd took her off the stage. Later on the girl cried"Why you all didn't vote for me. The most sensitive person for ever is Usha uthup.
I don't understand the SMS phenomenon. If public becomes the deciding factor then why not judges quit. Let the person who has maximum sms be declared winner.
Iam told SMS is only a cover. kanaka

    Hi Kanaka Mam,

The media creates the scenes like this. They show that scenes in slow motions and make people fool.It builds in the kids mind that we should be in that emotion when we would have been in that situation. They want to be like that.Media doing these kind of things for TBR rating or something else.It is the responsibility of the parents to teach their children what is success and what is failure. We have lot of opportunities in this competitive world so if we miss one , we ll get another.........thats the spirit..........

"Failure is the steeping stone to SUCCESS"
