Though I don't have f/back on DPS or one particular Indian school, I would suggest that for nursery / KG it is a pity if you don't try the various other better options available here in Singapore. Let your child mingle with other local and expat children in any good preschool nearby with small class size group of 10 to 15, if possible real montessori. Some may allow home food to be carried or selected food to be given at school. You can check with your local colleagues and neighbours about what is available

For the Indian schools they promote the nursery heavily, it is a way for them to bring in the intake for primary. I have nothing against exploring Indian school as you wish at primary 1 stage, it may make sense depending on how long you will be here. It may be that you need to rush back to the Indian system quickly when called back. For nursery stage I feel this should not be a big concern, your child can cope with that change

Recently there are comments and concerns that Indian schools are bringing the Indian system or way of doing things, GIIS the largest private school. You should read the Straits Times report here Attend local schools to integrate better and some forums discussing that. You should be open to possibilities and think openly. In future your child may want to be a PR or citizen. There is no rule yet but it seems like a possibility.

Lastly certain Indian school may tend to take it as a negative comment when you say the infrastructure is lacking or you question their modus operation. Again I don't know how DPS is on this scale and I don't want to name one particular school, so do ask around before you make a choice

After some private education scams broke out, Singapore has now set up Council for Private Education which regulates Indian schools also. NPS and Yuvabharati have already made it to the registration list (it is online). For DPS and GIIS, I think they are not online yet but eventually have to, if I am not wrong. Finally there will be an edutrust certification with Fee Protection Scheme (FPS) and so on which is essential that all Indian schools will have to follow. Having said that, if your child has the option to get admission to a good primary school under MOE it may be a blessing, if several years down the road you will want him to go to a local secondary school (if that is your long term plan).

Talking about short term, the biggest headache is faced by people on two year assignments: Schools in India generally are not ready to recognize foreign education standards at the correct level. Big problem here! The country is living in 1947 and as usual, nobody within India has the willingness to solve that problem.

My son attends NPS now and I hope none of you make the same mistake we did! We know the reputation NPS has in Bangalore and expected the Singapore branch to uphold it. We are greatly disappointed. The communication is terrible, they don't follow any system properly( it is neither CBSE, ICSE or MYP) and the teachers are honestly, quite terrible.
This is my personal opinion as a parent and I'm hoping to move him out soon. Most of the teachers just make assumptions and label the children and this reflects on the marking. Sometimes I wonder if they actually mark the papers or if the just put a grade there that the student is likely to get. They do not help develop the child at all. Horrible school, I am most disappointed.
I have heard much better things about GIIS, I would suggest choosing that over NPS if you are looking for an Indian International School. I have heard that the queenstown campus is better than the East Coast campus....
    Hope this helps. :thumbsup

    Hi,

I am planning to move to Singapore for 2-3 yrs.

Will my kids adjust easily in Indian Schools in Singapore?

My kids are studying in UKG and play school in Gurgaon, INDIA. School is affiliated from CBSE and their teachers speaks less english in the schools and hence my Kids as well. I am not able to give much time to my kids and My wife is not highly educated. But of course if Singapore, i will be giving my attention to my kids.

My worry is that if i shift to Singapore for better future for 2-3 yrs, will my kids manage easily? Will they have problem in communicating the things in the Indian Schools in Singapore?

Did you face the same problem, please share the experience.

    Regards,
    Mohit
