Yesterday, I watched the renowned Charles Chapin feature film named “The Kid”. I have received the DVD as a birthday gift a couple of weeks back from my mom.

This is the first “silent” movie that I have watched and I enjoyed it immensely!! We don’t need words much!! This is what I realized while watching The Kid. The basic human emotions and feelings can be conveyed and communicated without words. A look, a smile, a frown and a shrug can express most of our emotions. I felt that the loads of noise and dialogues (most of them trash:rant) that we get to hear in most of today’s films are completely unnecessary.

Have any of you seen The Kid?

    Dear Amrita,

I have watched The Kid on DD when I was in class Six or Seven. I remember being quite skeptical about watching a “silent” movie- I feared that I would make out absolutely nothing!! But my Granny and Dad encouraged me and sat with me. :)

I loved the movie. It was so lucid and easy to understand!! I loved the innocence and simplicity of this cute movie and remember it vividly even today. You are so correct when you say that we do not need words much! And Charles Chaplin rocks- even today!!:bowdown

    Dear Jaya,

I watched “Breaking and Entering” the other night. It is heartwarming indeed!
    :clap

I went to watch “Just Another Love Story” aka “AarekTi premer Galpo” on Friday. It was the matinee show at Priya and I had my mom with me. We were watching a movie at Priya after a really long time!!

Well, the movie is touching and poignant. On a scale of 1 to 10, I would give it a 7.5 keeping in mind the story, the emotions and the philosophies, the presentation and the portrayal. Rituparno Ghosh is an excellent actor!:bowdown!! Good directors mostly are – and the sensitivities and sensibilities of Abhiroop Sen and Chapal Bhaduri’s characters were beautifully depicted by Ghosh. I was haunted by the movie for the next couple of days- my mom admits the same!

    Dear Puni and Roopa,

Maid in Manhattan is one of my most favorite movies and Peepli Live is an excellent one!

Yesterday, I watched a movie named “My Sister’s Keeper” on Zee Studio. It is a beautiful movie!! This is how the plot of this movie goes. Anna Fitzgerald's older sister, Kate, suffers from acute promyelocytic leukemia, a cancer of the blood and bone marrow. Anna was conceived in order to harvest blood from her umbilical cord in order to use in treatments to help save Kate's life. Although the treatment was initially successful, Kate relapsed; ever since, Anna, the only compatible family member, has been used as a donor for any other bodily substance needed to treat Kate, who continues to swing between remission and relapse as she grows up.

Anna is usually willing to donate whatever Kate needs, but when she is 13, she is told that she will have to donate one of her kidneys. The surgery required for both Kate and Anna would be major; it is not guaranteed to work, as the stress of the operation may well kill Kate anyway; and the loss of a kidney could have a serious impact on Anna's life. Anna petitions for medical emancipation with the help of lawyer Campbell Alexander, so that she will be able to make her own decisions regarding her medical treatment and the donation of her kidney.
