Garlic was worshipped by the ancient Egyptians, chewed by Greek Olympian atheletes and thought to be essential for keeping vampires at bay!
But it is also good for zapping bacteria, keeping your heart healthy, warding off coughs and colds - and don't worry it needn't give you bad breath!

    Garlic and Pregnancy

New research shows that taking garlic during pregnancy can cut the risk of pre-eclampsia (raised blood pressure and protein retained in the urine). Studies reveal that garlic may help to boost the birth-weight of babies destined to be too small.

it acts as an anti oxidant

allicin present in garlic has anti bacterial and anti fungal activity.

it can assist in managing high cholesterol level.

    Hi Vidhya,

I took garlic after delivery for lactation. It is supposed to be good. I had induced but normal delivery due to pre-eclamsia.

Tell me the best way to take garlic on a daily basis. I dont like taking garlic tablets or raw garlic. I feel when we cut into small and fry and put in many items, is it still ok? I feel fried items loses its nutrients. Only time i cook in water is for garlic rasam. I also make garlic raita with only 1 raw garlic grond with coconut, 1 green chilli, salt. Otherwise i use only for thadka.

    dear Bala,

i take 5-10 cloves of garlic daily. i cook them along with dal (for sambar) a tomato 4 cloves of garlic cooked along with dal gives nice flavour as well as taste to sambar.

then kootu, poriyal i add while seasoning for them.

then once in 3 days i add garlic crushed without peeling off in boiling milk b4 removing from stove. this helps to control cholesterol, heart burn and and aphrodesiac ( he he newly weded) too.

then 4 cloves of garlic and 1/2 an inch ginger,1 green chilli boiled along with spinach grind melt butter add this paste(palak and if u add paneer palak paneer). very good side dish for chapathi/roti.

thats how we go me and garlic

    Hi Vidhya,

You are correct. For pregnant ladies Garlic is too good. Even after delivery we can use garlic, to get more milk for the baby. We are Iyangars and dont use garlic regularly. But my Patti make 'garlic thuvial' at the time of 'pathiyam'. She used to tell that when we sweat, we must feel the garlic smell. Till that she will use garlic for us.

But what to do? She can force me to eat. But not Krishna will not drink milk when I eat garlic:-D:clap But it is too good for health.
