Hubby, son and I returned to India a month back. And since when we came here, all 3 of us have been falling sick on and off. Son has cold, cough, motions, lack of appetite. Hubby has cold, cough. I have been having cold, cough for the past 1 month. Am tired of coughing now.

Did any of you experience any similar symptoms upon R2I? How long did it take for your body to get adjusted to the Indian climate, water, food etc?

Pls advice. We are seeing a doctor, but so far, not much relief. The doc herself was saying that it will take atleast 6 months for my son to get used to everything in India.

    Hi Curious Gal,

I have expereinced the same problem which ur facing now. Recently we have moved from US. We both are ok but my son almost took 2 months to get back to his normal health. Basically the change is only on the atmosphere / climatic conditions. Even if u consult a doctor u will get the same answers.

Do not worry u will get used to this climatic conditions.

    All the best!

    Have a nice day.

    THanks for the response Kavitha.
Now it is even worse. I have high fever, eye infection, ear infection also in addition to cold, cough.
My son is not eating anything. If we force him, he vomits. He is only drinking milk. And if we give him regular milk, he gets loose motions.
Really at a loss as to what to do.
My son I understand....this is his first time in India. But I was born brought up here in India, lived almost 25-26 yrs.....and just 5 yrs in US and this is our state now..
Us atleast we can tell the doctor what the problem is. My son cannot talk...he is only 1 yr 2 months .....poor chap......his face is full of mosquito bites :(
It is so distressing to see my lil' one like this.

It is important you take precautions for mosquitos, also drinking water, what you eat. Use AC if it is hot. All this you had to plan before the move as one knows the problems in India. As far as your health is concerned I am not sure why it is like this for all of you.

I think the tourist who visit India for first time from abroad may also not report all the symptoms like you said in your case and your husband case...

It is your own body that is not living to the situation and we cannot blame Indian enviornment entirely. I went to India after 6 years in US , in June 2010, lived there 4 months, the only problem I faced by throat infection , took medicnie for some week it got ok. After that there was no problem. Depending on the city you are in there can be some epidemic, you just have to take precautions.. from those and dust and all...

PS: Of course my daughter got dengue fever as dengue is rampant in India, she was hospitalised due to that for a week. Some diseases like dengue, malaria spreads during monsoon, one has to take precautions..

May be your son has lactose intolerance, many in my family have that too. That is why in US they sell lactose free milk. If he is getting loose motion then talk to the pedetrician about that. Tell the doc that he may not have lactose tolerance that is why he is getting loose motion, the doc will tell on his/her own too. But doc can give some suggestions, try cow milk...

It does take time to get adjusted back to the Indian climate, have patience. Along with that also start using air purifiers that will help to purify indoor air and give you more time to get adjusted with the current Indian environment. A cough and cold are signs of dust allergy.
I hope you are using RO water purifier.

Mosquitoes too could be a danger to your health, so daily use repellent in the corners of your home. Eat more fruits and visit the doctor if the condition does not improve in one month.

Monsoon too get lots of mosquitoes, as you have recently shifted back to India, do follow the 5 Pm drill of shutting the windows and turn on the liquid vaporizers to drive the mosquitoes away and keeping yourself and four family safe.
