    Hello IL members,
    Here I would like to give the benefits with garlic.

    Chewing them can give u bad breath but garlic, in Indian Curry it can actually be a boon for the health.

    Scientists have found why garlic can help keep the heart healthy.

    Garlic boosts the body's ability to produce a compound called ALLICIN, that relaxes blood vessels, increases blood flow and prevents blood clots and oxidative damage.
    Scientists say that Allicin, which is broken down into the foul-smelling sulphur compounds which taint breath reacts with red blood cells(RBC) and produces hydrogen sulphide which relaxes blood vessels and keeps blood flowing easily.
    Further experiments showed that the chemical reaction took place mainly on the surface of the blood cells, playing a vital role in helping cells to communicate with each other .
    It stimulates the cells that form the lining of the vessels to relax causing the vessels to dilate. This in turn reduces blood pressure allowing the blood to carry more oxygen to essential organs and reducing pressure on the heart.
    New researchers have shown that Garlic can be very beneficial to cancer patients as it inhibits growth of Cancer cell.
    Certainly, in areas where Garlic consumption is high, (Mediterranean and Far East) there is a low incidence of Cardio vascular disease.
    Egyptians worshipped Garlic and it may surprise that it was so highly-prized and it was even used as currency.
    Please share u r feedbacks at the earliest.

    take 2 steamed garlics daily with a tsp of honey -- this aids in good digestion ; relives stuffiness of the tummy.
    its good for common cold ;its said that garlic reduces the complications in pregnancy;

    note:
    raw garlic is very strong, so too much of raw garlic can irritate /damage the digestive tract.:evil:

    to get rid of garlic -breath::eek
    apart from brushing & mouth-wash, can chew a sprig of fresh parsley....this can help alot:-D :thumbsup

    Hi subha,

    Thank u so much for very useful information.
    In short, garlic is a very powerful herb that has quite a few uses besides cooking and getting rid of vampires. Many people in India still use it for many common aches and pains that come with everyday living, and of course use it in most of their foods because they believe that it promotes a long and healthy life.

    hi friends...

    in general...
    "No one is indifferent to garlic. People either love it or hate it, and most good cooks seem to belong in the first group."

    Garlic is known universally as the stinking rose, the term reportedly going back to Greek and Roman times. But why? The "stinking" part is obvious, but why "rose"? Garlic is an allium which is part of the Liliaceae family. Garlic is closer to a lily than a rose. So what is the origin of the name?
    Unfortunately there is no clear answer to this question. <!--[if gte vml 1]><v:shapetype id="_x0000_t75" coordsize="21600,21600" o:spt="75" o:preferrelative="t" path="m@4@5l@4@11@9@11@9@5xe" filled="f" stroked="f"> <v:stroke joinstyle="miter"/> <v:formulas> <v:f eqn="if lineDrawn pixelLineWidth 0"/> <v:f eqn="sum @0 1 0"/> <v:f eqn="sum 0 0 @1"/> <v:f eqn="prod @2 1 2"/> <v:f eqn="prod @3 21600 pixelWidth"/> <v:f eqn="prod @3 21600 pixelHeight"/> <v:f eqn="sum @0 0 1"/> <v:f eqn="prod @6 1 2"/> <v:f eqn="prod @7 21600 pixelWidth"/> <v:f eqn="sum @8 21600 0"/> <v:f eqn="prod @7 21600 pixelHeight"/> <v:f eqn="sum @10 21600 0"/> </v:formulas> <v:path o:extrusionok="f" gradientshapeok="t" o:connecttype="rect"/> <o:lock v:ext="edit" aspectratio="t"/> </v:shapetype><v:shape id="_x0000_i1025" type="#_x0000_t75" alt="white rose" style='width:180pt;height:135pt'> <v:imagedata src="file:///C:\DOCUME~1\ADMINI~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\msohtml1\01\clip_image001.jpg" o:href="http://www.garlic-central.com/white-rose.jpg"/> </v:shape><![endif]--><!--[if !vml]--><!--[endif]-->
    In their excellent book Garlic: Nature's Original Remedy Stephen Fulder and John Blackwood discuss the issue. The ancient Greek name for garlic was scorodon. According to Fulder and Blackwood, French physician Henri Leclerc derived this from skaion rodon which he translated as rose puante, or "stinking rose".
    This still doesn't explain why garlic should have been considered a rose in the first place. One possibility is that if looked at from underneath a bulb of garlic does slightly resemble a white rose with the large ends of the cloves forming the petals. Personally I find this rather a stretch of the imagination.

    cheers...!!!:)
