    hi all,

Well was waiting in the sidelines...waiting if only one of you gals would post a congratulatory message for our very own world champion Vishwanathan Anand.:clap:clap:clap:clap. but looks like we gals also are captivated only by cricket...:bang. how many thread were posted to congratulate dhoni and his men.

Anand, the world’s top-ranked player, won the World Chess Championship in Mexico City that ended september 29th. He dominated the 14-round event, winning four of them and losing none through Round 13.

This is the second time Anand has been world champion. In 2000, he won the World Chess Federation’s championship, held in Tehran and New Delhi. At the time, however, there was a rival claim for the title, and Anand was not universally acknowledged as champion. This time is different. The title was unified last year, and there is only one champion.

[FONT=Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif]Viswanathan Anand was on Monday hosted by President Pratibha Patil at the Rashtrapati Bhawan on his first homecoming after winning the top honour in Mexico a fortnight ago.

Viswanathan anand’s success in the world championships in mexico City is bound to rub off on the grandmasters and International Masters of the country when a host of them queue up in the Capital to participate in the 2007 edition of the Parsvnath Commonwealth Chess Championships to be held between December 2 and 10 at the Siri Fort Complex.

Re: hi all i am really disappointed....

    Hi Shanti,

As I love the game of Chess very much as I play quite well(says my relatives who have lost in the game of chess to me) I have been following Anand's games a lot. But my Navaratri schedule kept me so busy that I forgot that he is back in India and he met our President also. Infact I think the caption gave by THE HINDU was President gave audience to Anand. What a great headline. A Chennaite getting such a name and fame is always a thing of being proud to all of us.

Congrats Anand. This victory is a feather on your crown and it will definitely make your mom and your wife Aruna so proud.

    Dear Shanvy,

Your concerns regarding Anand's welcome after his great triumph is the same as mine too. In India when cricket season is on no other sport or no sprtsperson's achievement gets noticed. Anyway, I found this photo of his reception at New Delhi airport which is some consolation.
