    Hello friend,

I have the same problem with my 5 year old son..he hesitates taking alopathic medicine and pukes out. I am into ayurvedic medicines now .It works if we start medicating in the initial stage. For common cold Thalis patradi choornam with honey have a good effect in the inial stage.During bed time apply Vicks on the childs chest, back and the feet and cover the feet with a woolen socks.

for homeo medicines, i have no issues at all!
but for liquid medicines, i fill the medicine in a small syringe (u can buy a 5 ml one) and squirt it into her mouth...not by force...if ur kid is not very sick with fever, she will enjoy squirting water into her mouth with the syringe...after a few rounds of this, u can fill it with medicine and i am sure it will go down without any prblems!

    Hi Achu,
You can give the tablets or syrup mixed with a small amount of honey.
Powder the tablet and mix it well , for syrup follow the same method.
Hope to see you and the lil one smiling, soon!!bonk

    Hi,

while you try methods suggested by other IL's, keep telling your kid that he cannot get well if he don't take the medicines. and if he don't get well he cannot play with his toys or friends. talking to the kids in a continuous fashion makes a change. My daughter was like that initially for taking medicines, but I kept telling her and now she's fine taking the medicines.

    good luck & Cheers,
    Malar

This problem is quite common among children. my 13 yr old still gives me trouble
For small children under 5, best way is to get syringe. measure qty of medicine then open their mouth, pour it in. Give them their juice or something to drink right away.
    Will work always
Here the medcine can be coated in any flavor if we ask for it. Please ask pharmacy staff about it. And always get liquid. All antibiotics can be got in liquid you need to ask
Hope i helped. my opinion only.

Giving medicines to a toddler - ideas please

    Hi everyone,
My son is sick for the first time in his life and now getting the medicine into him has become a big battle. Initially he liked the taste of Crocin and it wasnt a problem. Today however I have reluctantly started him on antibiotics and he HATES it - turns away, pushes me away and wont open his mouth even a little. I managed to get the first dose in with his father's help but I was wondering how you all manage. Any tips/suggestions please?

    Vanathi.

Since this sounds exactly like my son I am going to share my trick.
Initially the two of us used to force feed the medicine - abig battle no doubt.
Later we discovered the nozzle - that is the drip small tube with nozzle in one end- here they dispense these with medicines for children.
It also comes with measuring along its sides
Then it was very easy- hope I am making myself clear. Its like the filler tube with suction like pump in one end and nozzle other end- dont know its name
So once you open the childs mouth and press the pump medicine dispenses in one shot. I have always got liquid medicine only. even now.
    Hope I helped:) Good luck.

Re: Giving medicines to a toddler - ideas please

    Dear vanathi,

When i was in India my daughter also refused to have crocin/paracetamol syrup bcos of its taste. My paed is so good that he gives medicines as per the child's taste. He then gave me a sample of "frutimol" ( or frutmol i think) which has fruit taste. My daughter liked it so much and from then i started giving her this.
This medicine also comes in frutmol plus for fever plus cold/cough n body pains.

Reg giving antibiotic to my son, my mom used to first give him a pinch of sugar first (either directly or dissolved in water) then immediately give the medicine. Also try to give the medicine in instalments. Like in 2 does in a gap of 5-10 mins.

    Hope this helps,
    vani
