    Hi,

I am looking for suggestions on where to find Ayurvedic powders such as hibiscus leaf powder, aritha, shikakai etc in Chennai. Also looking to buy neelabinghadi oil of the arya vaidya sala. Ideal would be in the t-nagar area.

    Thanks in advance.

    b's mom,

how are you. I assume this is for the hair..you get this in almost all the naatu marundu kadai/dabba chetty shops..

Kottakkal has 2/3 pharmacies in t-nagar..but they have their own oils..

The famous dabba chetty kadai near kapaaleeshwarar temple, mylapore.

there are shops in pondy bazaar, back of the flower shops..

will this thread be of help..http://www.indusladies.com/forums/s...ld-items/56780-where-can-i-get-shikakaai.html

    Thanks Shanthi for the response.

Have been having a crazy time over the past few months with B's upping her antics :), hence the drastically reduced time on IL. How is your daughter doing?

Planning on visiting chennai for a few days and wanted to get some of these powders to salvage the damage done by decades of shampoo use and also inculcate good hair care habits for B.

I will give pondy bazaar a try and if that does not work out will check out the dabba chetty kadai.

Any feedback on the neelabringadhi oil compared to say coconut oil?

    Thanks again.

    BA,

    so sweet.
DD is fine. little busy with her 10th exams coming up.

I do not use any of these readymade oils. i make my own..rather steep my own. d has long hair..so i do not take risk with any of these.

in the dabba chetty shops you get a pack of herbs you can use for hair oil.in the sense boil those herbs with the coconut oil base. i add curry leaves, methi, aloevera gel, to the herbs and boil it.. once in six months.. it smells herbish, but has been good on our hair.

we use the regular shampoos. shikakai powder, i make with shikakai pods, soapnut, little bit of green gram and hibicus flowers..percentage of soapnut is more. i remove the seeds before i take it to the mill.

i think chitvish mam has given recipe and amount for both the shampoo and hair oil..
