puni, long time. good see the old gang back one by one. how is kutti super star..

i agree, if things are in stellar conditions, it is better to pay for the shipping than buying everything.only thing that you have to remember is allocation of space for these things even before shipping..why is it we buy so much inspite of knowing that we have smaller spaces later.:bonk:bonk or at least buy things which can get pushed into the loft. hope my dh is not reading this...my lofts are full of dinner sets, books and things...:rotfl:rotfl:rotfl

kids tend to surprise you. they are the most adaptable and resilient humans..and they will take to things like fish in water though they will appear to be grumbling and cribbing on your face..there is not much lacking in the metros, for them to miss us..

Oh, puni i agree with spidey, no revenge please..it does nothing to other person, it eats up your peace of mind and energy..
    very sensible and practical.

pick up medical insurances for your pil/parents, if they are not above the maximum age for cover..it works out better. i advice this to all my resident and non-resident friends everytime..and sometimes people feel irritated, but faced with the health issues, and the cost of medical facilities, it works out better and you are not pressed when a need arises.

believe me no body has chunks of time to do much interference on a day to day basis. with the stress of work, kids and families, each has his own agenda. but execeptions are always there.

This is one aspect many take lightly. they tend to think india is cheaper. sometimes, i feel other places are cheaper compared to the metros. when i came in 4+ years back it was reasonable, that is it was cheap comparatively and today it has gone up 200% on certain items.

I hope you like the place, and are not going to open a return 2 America thread. all the best to your return.

Priya, welcome to this forum. all the best to your return to india move. Do erase away any pre-determined thought of punches..and i am sure your taking each day as it comes will veer you out of any tricky/sticky situation.

RE investment looks like a nightmare. i always believe in what is yours definitely comes to you, only you have to work towards it. all the best for your dream house. do relax, return, work out your plan, judge, assimilate the situation and then go towards the step of buying.. as it is not cities alone that are costly, even 2 tier/3 tier have become costly.

do you mean to say there are no office politics elsewhere, working hours, travel time elsewhere. I feel it is just that till date you have been coming down to india on vacation, and we tend to judge more. It is all about our time management, people management and management of our priorities that go towards a successful quality of life.

Sabi, talk about the change:bonk. lot of my friends, including my dear husband is surprised every time he comes to chennai.( it is once in 3 months). is it because we want it to be the same conservative way it was when we were growing up. society is us, and it reflects us in the changes is my pov..(us is in general..)

I just realized that I did not exactly answer the questions by the OP...

Yes, disposing the other asset (namely selling our house) has been the main showstopper. But now we are just tired of waiting for the real estate recovery, so we have decided to move on. We are debating about renting vs selling. We are planning to ship the really good furniture. After living in US for over a decade, things have accumulated :)

Nuclear family. I dont think I can even move in with my parents, let alone living with in-laws.

I think we would take on all the expenses. We would still be much more affluent than my DH's siblings. So I dont feel right to ask them to share the expenses.

Hmmm...no idea. So far I've been all smiles and turned a deaf ear to complaints from inlaws. I am not their favorite DIL, but I knew I had to endure it only for few weeks, so never really cared. My DH is a wonderful man, so I had made it a policy to never pull inlaw issues between us. I just did not want to put him in a position to defend his parents or to apologize on their behalf. Well, all these policies might change when we move back;)

You are right, I moved out of India as soon as I finished college. Hence the transformation from a carefree girl to responsible wife/mother and a working woman took place at my own pace and under my own terms. So I dont know how I would deal with social interventions or Indian work culture. It is just a fear of the unknown :) I am sure we will figure things out as we go, just like we learned to adjust in a foreign country. Thanks Shanvy!

    Thanks Shanthi!!
I know we all got busy with our own things.
Kutti super star is doing good and growing big.

Shanthi, you know me.... I am not a person who gets into these issues.
Until unless they try to create rift in my family, I am not here to sit back and cry this time.

Thanks for your valuable advise here.
We are sincerely trying our best to relocate.

Target is next summer after kids schools completion.
But the house which we have need to sell in this bad market.
That's the only thing is holding us now.
