    Shiva,

I read this reply of yours to Praseeda. I need your advice on this.

Myself and my husband are here in Qatar. My MIL is here on a visit. She will be here for another couple of months.
I am on a weight loss journey as you know.
My husband was diagnosed of borderline diabetes and high cholestral last year (since he had been living on outside food all 3 times of the day during the previous year, because I was in India for my delivery). But he started his exercise and diet as soon as we found this out and so, we brought his sugar and cholestral levels under control and so the doctor has not prescribed any medication and has asked us to be on proper diet and to avoid sugars and fatty items. We maintain the levels on diet and exercise alone.
Then, my MIL (who is 55 yrs old) has diabetes, High BP and High cholestral and is on medication (2 tablets everyday for each of the above conditions).
So, all 3 of us need to watch what we eat and make sure we do some exercise daily. And, I am the cook as well as the one who decides what all of us eat.
I make sure that I make chappathis (no oil added to make dough or to toast) atleast 3 to 4 days for dinner in a week. Dosas if I make are without oil.

Given the above background, I want to know whether it is okay to add oil to the chappathis when I make them.

Earlier I used to make the dough with plain water alone and the chappathis used to be hard. Then in one of your replies to somebody else on Multi Grain roties, you had mentioned that by adding hot water, they become soft.
So, nowadays I add hot water to make the dough and the chappathis are better that before.

My doubt now is, can I add a little bit of oil when I toast the chappathis in the non stick tava? Does it enhance the taste considerably?
Because I am already like a strict superviser here, making sure my MIL doesn't eat sweets, fried items etc. And, depriving her of some tasty chappathis makes me feel guilty at times.

(P.S.: my MIL has lost 6 Kgs already in the past 1.5 months that she is here).

Please advise Shiva and everyone else!
Indian Guy, Can you please write your suggestions too?

Dear Shiva,I am a newbie to IL and this is my first post.I saw your thread on weightloss. You are doing such a wonderful job.I have yet to go thru the whole thread but I get the general picture. You are really remarkable.

Now coming to my story-I am 39 years old,5 feet 6 inches. My weight is (please dont be shocked,I'm really ashamed of it) 96 kgs.:drowningThis is mainly due to lack of exercise, high calorie gulf lifestyle,2 deliveries. Is there any hope for me? I am constantly depressed thinking of my weight.I cannot enjoy life at all.Always my weight is at the back of my mind.I have tried losing weight countless times in the past.I lose 2-3 kgs, then go back to my old self and gain all back. Will I be able to lose weight at this age?I think I must be the heaviest in this thread.Any buddies with this weight to give me company in my weightloss effort.I will be going to India next july.By then I hope to achieve something. My goal isto be 75kgs.I cant dream of more in my present state. Please help me Shiva....

    Hello Jazz maam,

Please dont be ashamed about your weight. You should feel very proud that you are taking the steps to lose weight.

Please count me as your buddy. My starting weight was 96Kgs and I have lost 4 Kgs now. I am trying to lose 1 more Kg by tuesday which is my weighing day.

And, please dont ever say 'at this age'! 39 is not such an age.

You can do even miracles if only you think you can!

    Dear Shiva and other friends,

Shiva can you plz post once again about that oats recipe where we soak the oats in milk overnight. I was not able to find that.

Vannu, thank you for your regards.I somewhat okay now.

Jazz, me too started from a weight of 96kg now I am 93kg with shiva's help. I could very well understand your feelings. For me it was like weight gain triggering depression, triggering weight gain . It was a vicious cycle. As you said what ever I do,this is always there in the back of my mind. This time when you check your weight tell yourself that this is the last time you are going to see that number and bid goodbye. I am also joining you as your buddy.

Misha ,my mother is also obsessed with my weight. She is obsessed to such an extent that every now and then she sees me in her dreams ,with a normal weight. Last week some of my family members visited me from India and when they called her from my home, this was the first question she asked them, how is my daughter? did she lose weight? :biglaugh

    Love you all
    Mrs

    Hi Shiva,

I couldn't walk yesterday because on day before yesterday I was doing evening walk and suddenly a street dog bit me on my left leg :rant

I took two injections on that day only and four more need to take within a month. I was telling to my mom on same day that now nobody can stop me and this time I'll surely lose weight and the same day this happened :thumbsdown

Nowadays If I miss exercise for even one day then I feel so bad... I hope I'll be able to go for walk today...

Dear prss and mrs,Thank you so much for your kind words and encouragement.I am so glad I found you buddies. Many of the members in this thread have weight in 60kg range or 70 kg range and trying to lose weight. And we are trying to get into their overweight range.Don't know to laugh or cry. Please can you both tell me how you lost 3-4 kgs.Your eating patterns, frequency of exercise etc. Also if you dont mind your age, height and number of deliveries. This is just for my assurance only that I can hope to lose weight.I have heard it is very difficult to lose once you hit 40 years.Thanking you both for your kind co-operation

    Hi Shiva,

Thanks for the detailed reply. My kichdi and daliya days are over now as doc says can eat my normal diet - so am back on my daals and sabjis.

Also for next 6 months I need to be on a high calcium and protien diet as per my doc as the treatment leads to bone thinning as well. :rotfl

So its twice a day milk and dahi for me these days.

Am trying to stick to the eat within 3/4 hrs gap - but its difficult to follow.

Thanks again and all the best for your goal - will keep you posted.

Asshimom, eeks dog bite...!!! I am a dog lover and 7 or 8 byears back a dog bit me on my hand as I was about to pet it - more than the pain I was shocked because of the hurt that a dog bit me. Even I had to take 4/5 injections. Take care!!
