    Hi praseeda,

I would like to give a small suggestion. At best, avoid all outside foods as far as possible. But.........When you are in a compulsion to have a dinner in a restaurant once in ten days, then it may sometimes, be practically impossible to avoid it. After all, these are life's little pleasures (having an outing with family).

Next time, when you are stuck up with a restaurant outing, try this suggestion : Order a plate of green salad. It is available in every restaurant........pieces of cucumber, tomatoes, beetroot and onion, with pieces of lemon. Sprinkle lemon drops over them liberally. Ask for chat masala powder. Sprinkle it over the green salad. Then order for one glass of buttermilk. Start eating greensalad with sips of buttermilk. Then, choose a vegetable soup, without cream topping, (if you are in doubt, ask the server, which soup in the menu does not contain overadded cream on it). Complete the soup. Then, few pieces of roti with gravy. Your stomach will be filled up 75 %. Then, stop eating. No desserts strictly.

After all, bottomline is a constellation of two points, in diet. One is.............finding out high fat foods and avoiding them (which you have done precisely the above way). The second.............eating upto 75% of stomach volume and leaving 25 % empty, (filled with cold water). And, finishing the dinner this way.

This way, it is okay, to have a restaurant outing, whenever you can not avoid it, in spite of your best efforts. (say........once in ten days or a week )

    Dear Thush,

If you are saying that you lost 20 kgs in 2 months then its better you see a doctor. This is way to much of weight loss. Please see a doctor as soon as possible.

Please update me about what the doctor said.

Waiting to hear from you soon.

    Lots of love

    regards

    Dear Praseeda,

I am so happy to read this. This is one thing that I always want to tell people. Kids learn fast. Its a myth that kids can eat anything.

For example, when we eat a high cal food or lets say sweets. There is a spike in sugar level. As adults we try to avoid this spike but think about it, as kids if we were trained to eat healthy lots of us would never had the high sugar scare.

If the foundation is strong the building will be strong too.

Here in Muscat I have a friend whose daughter goes to Australian school. Now, when she started keeping paratha in the kids's lunch box, the girl started saying 'I don't want to take it, I want to eat boiled vegetables'. Soon, the little girl started eating boiled carrots, peas, salads, mushroom, grilled chicken. My friend got worried and she went to a doctor and doctor said 'why don't you learn to eat like this child. Why do you have to force rice and roti down her throat.' Kids pick up very fast from their environment.

Her daughter picked these habits looking at her classmates. So kids can be trained very fast but it takes an initiative from us too.

Once I read an interview of Malika Arora Khan, she said she was trained to get up from the dinning table when she was a little hungry. Her mother taught her to eat till there is a little hunger left. She never eats for getting the stuffed feeling.

All through my child, only one thing spelled satisfaction for me, the stuffed full feeling because that is how I was trained. Till date I eat like that else I would feel hungry but I try to get that feeling through soups. My trick was to create bulk to get that feeling. Had I been trained to eat within limits I would never have gained weight.

I am so happy that you are instilling healthy habits in your daughter. You really made me happy :). I really liked the way you wrote down about your own childhood, it was same for me.

Even I feel like having something sweet. You are tackling it nicely. I usually have a chilled sweet fruit or a piece of jaggery.

The fruit yogurt that we get here feels sweetened and creamy. Why don't you make them at home. Give it a try, its a nice way to eat yogurt.

As for milk powder I never gave it a thought. People avoid sugar in their milk to control diabetes or to lose weight but will eat a samosa. I decided I will keep these little things like drinking sugar in tea, using a whitener in coffee and will give up on samosa. So don't worry about using milk powder.

Why do you not apply ghee on your roti. If you don't like ghee then its fine but if you like gheee then please don't avoid it. Dip the spoon in the ghee can and then invert it so that all the ghee drops back. Now, apply the ghee from the back of the spoon. It will do the trick. Also if the ghee is melted it increases in size and you can easily apply ghee. The little spreads easily on the roti.

Never give up on small joys of life like tea, coffee, ghee on roties, ghee in daal. During weight loss we already give up on major things like eating outside food and eating high calorie food, it will be really sad if we give up on these small things that are a part of our daily diet. The more we enjoy small joys of life the more we will stay commited to diet.

My tea with milk and sugar, my roti with ghee, my daal with ghee, my bread these things are a part of my day and I do not want to part way with them. They make my day what it is, most of them take me back to my childhood because they still taste the same :) and I am not ready to give them up at any cost.

Awesome work. Your whole family is changing their outlook, awesome work my girl. Once we are in control, we have the power to walk away without eating.

I love the way you are getting exercise in your routine. Way to go sweetheart.

    I just loved your post.

    Have a great day ahead.

    regards

    Dear Hasna,

I didn't knew if it was only at Aziba branch but now to think of it the trainer did told me it was in initial stages and all the branches do not have it.

Good. The speed is good. Hasna, I am not a very big supporter of inclination.

We tend to hold the front of the machine while walking on inclination and also I feel lot of strain in my lower back while walking that way.

I try to walk with force at zero inclination and get in the jogging.

Your speed is fabulous, keep it up.

In all you should target 45 minutes of cardio. SO you can increase the timing of cycling to 15 minutes. Then 5 minutes ET and then 5minutes rowing/stepper or something else.

The trick to increase the timing is, you can do cycling for 10 minutes at level 9-10. Now after 10 minutes, for 2 minutes get the level to 8, then next 2 minutes get the level to 6. It becomes easier this way to increase your timings. Give it a try and you will see how easy it is to increase 5 minutes :).

Hope this helps. I missed this post of yours, thanks a ton for pointing it out to me.

    Have a great day ahead.

    regards

    Dear Sadhana,

Very Good for starting the diet. Why do you want to eat cornflakes 2 times a day and why do you feel guilty of eating.

The most important rule of weight loss is that you need to eat.

If you are a rice eater, cook starch less rice (procedure is in my blog). Take 1 tbspoon of rice and add lots of sambhar in it, you can proceed to add vegetables and raita also. And have it. You will love it. Don't give it up.

If you want to eat something else in dinner
You can try multigrain roti with sabji, daliya with sambhar etc. There are hell lot of options so why cornflakes.

    Cornflakes are strictly for breakfast.

Eat healthy food and as a side effect weight loss will happen.

    Have a great day ahead.

    regards

    Hi Shiva,

I just wanted to talk something about "committment". My height is 172 cm. According to standard height /weight charts, I am supposed to be between 61 kg to 71 kg. Anything between 61 and 71 is normal for me. I have been 72 kg since 2004. For the past six years, I have been telling my family and friends that I want to lose around six kg and reach 65 kg. But, it never went down below 72 kg.

But, last August we had our classmates get together. There I saw my classmate guys and girls. Every one of them have maintained their weight at the median (the mid point between the minimum and maximum weights of that individual) weight. Though I am myself not obese, being at the maximum of my allowed weight range, I looked the fattest guy in the gathering. When I browse through the photos, it was obvious.

Coming back home from the get-together, I started losing weight at the speed of one kg per month. Now I have lost 2 kg and am standing at 70 kg.

The point I want to share with you and every one here..........knowing something is knowledge..........understanding the same is wisdom...........but, for putting it into practice, that needs, "committment". The quality 'committment' is something we have to execute by our emotions, not intellect.

"comittment" is not merely knowing, not merely understanding..........but executing it here and now. I realised , since 2004, I have been councelling so many of my clients (I am a family practioner) to lose weight, some of them have lost weight successfully also. But, I myself, in spite of , me telling every one that I also want to lose five to six kg weight, never did it in the real sense. WHAT I WAS LACKING IN WAS 'COMMITTMENT'

Do I convey the real sense behind the word, "committment" by the above story of me ?
