I do hope someone well versed with all the do's and donts help you out. But such an innocent query I couldn't let go .
I haven't heard about this, but hve heard a passing mention of not having conjugal relation before going to temple etc, but I don't know how strict it is. But since you haven't been informed of such restriction either by your mum or mil I take it tht its not something that's followed at either places.

But if its something that's causing you a guilt trip then incase you Don't get the info, maybe you should refrain from it. But have you asked your dh about this? Rather than blindly following, you should consider the logic behind it and what's best for you both. Take care dear...

At least as per many south indian traditions, there isn't any rule not to have sex during navaratri.

    Dear,
I don't think there is any restriction on any days. And BTW, not very related here, but just to let you know - the abortion rate in Mumbai is highest immediately after navaratri (may be for all the wrong reasons).. but it means its not banned - definitely not between legally wedded husband and wife.

Try to avoid learning too much about tradition, because its difficult to not think about them - even if you dont' believe in them. I'm not marketing my blog, but have written on this exact subject, see if you can read it & the replies received: Help me un-learn, Please... - IndusLadies

    All the best and enjoy!

There are no such restrictions as far as I know. People who go on pilgrimage to sabarimala usually don't have sex once they wear the "mala" and till they finish the pilgrimage. But other than that, there is no other restrictions.

You can always take a shower after sex before going to temple etc.

To add........Last year, Time of India, reported (after a study in ten Gujarat cities) that condom sale goes up by ten times, in all chemist' shops, during the Navaratri days. !!

Sex is a normal act between healthy adults, it is just as normal as the act of we eating our food when we are hungry. And you can do any normal act on any of the 365 days of the year, be it navaratri or not.

Yeah even one news report said every morning at the venue of garbha dances there are lots of used condoms. Gals and Boys take name of Garbha and do sex. In this way parents think children playing dandia whereas children doing something else. In gujrat. some parents even keep spys to keep watch on their kids whether do they really go to play dandiya or something else.

How bout on the month of 'Adhi'. They say we are not supposed to conceive on the month of 'Adhi' since the baby will be born in the month of 'Chithirai' and it's not good for the father especially if it's a boy.

Of course I am also aware that the actual meaning behind this is, those days without good hospital facilities babies born in the month of 'Chithirai' die due to the very hot climate. Thus it was advised not to conceive in 'Adhi' and deliver in 'Chithirai'.

    Now which is true? :hide:

And how bout a baby being born in the month of 'Adhi'?
