    Hi Ragini,
    1. You can get indoor plants either in home dept or Lowes, normally they will be kept in the green house and for each plant they will have instructions attached to it..

    2. Most of the indoor plants will do well at room temps..you need not keep outside at all for (eg:pics nos2,3,8,10,12 )never kept outside..

    3. No, it’s not an issue for indoor plants..hope this helps

For questions regarding house plants i thought i'll add my 2 cents here. hope nobody minds:)
Beginners can shop at a nursery close by or in one of the bigger chains like Lowes or Homedepot.
When you visit the nursery, you can see plants kept indoor and some outside too. this is because indoor plants are kept indoors. take your time to walk around and look at plants. I have always found there are people to assist with questions both in India and abroad.
Most plants do have their info sheet in their pot itself if not these questions can be asked. regarding height, required sunlight, flowering habits, repotting, etc.
I have always found the plant that appeals to us while browsing is what we would like . Also there are creeping plants, plants growing tall or wide some staying in the same height etc.
Also I usually decide in which rooms I want to place plants and what kind of plants will look good. for example in my living room I have a huge tree like plant and in dining room i have smaller plants with occasional flowers. in bathroom where there is more humidity i have plants which thrive on humid weather.
Ofcourse my husband and i make frequent trips to nurseries and I can also shop for my plants online here but this might help for getting started.
Maintenance for the most part is very easy. most plants require regular water so soil should be moist and occasional plant food. and some sunlight ofcourse but care instructions always come with plant.
Looks like i got carried away and have rambled on but i hope i helped.
Also there are so many fancy containers available these days. good luck.

    Dear Chitra,

Thanks a ton for coming up with detailed beginner tips. The info was really helpful.

Will surely keep ur tips in mind when i go shopping. A quick question, are the fancy containers for the plants too available in the same stores??

    Thanks,

    Ragini.

    Dear Ragini
I just noticed you live in Wisconsin. Not a problem for you. Since you will certainly have lowes and home depot and a host of local nurseries. I would like to make a recommendation that i was not aware of when i first started gardening ; decide on the location you want to place your indoor plant like example foyer, windowsill, living room bathroom etc. Then decide on the size and height you need. for ex. in foyer you need maybe 2-3 ft or if you have a BIG house a much taller fern like plant bec. they are always attractive.
You can never go wrong with a fern plant all varieties are superb.
Yes (will stop rambling:roll: ) containers are available in above mentioned stores. Initially you can place plant with the container that it comes in inside the new fancy container that u buy. keep posting.

    Way to go Chithra!!!!
Ragini you can use anything that catches your fancy as a decorative container for indoor plants. If you can drill drainage holes in the container, then the plants can be directly potted in the container. otherwise use the container as a decorative outer cover for plant potted in regular plastic pots. One of my friends has an orchid plant growing in her favorite cowboy boot. I always spend some time infront of it admiring it when ever i visit her. She placed florist moss between layers of orchid potting material so that when she waters it the excess water will be absorbed by the moss and not leak out. I have seen pictures online where fancy hats have been used as containers for winter bulbs. In Restoration hardware stores I have seen our indian steel buckets being used as containers. So I would say if it catches your eye and gets your imagination going you can use it as a floral container.

    Have fun .....

I used a rooster cookie jar whose lid was accidentally broken as a container for my amaryllis bulbs last year.....
