To make silver sparkle

Hi all,

Tip 1:

1. Take water in a big vessel . keep on gas and boil the water.
2. Cut aluminium foil into small pieces.
3. When the water boils put the silver items which u want to clean into the vessel.
4. Add the aluminium foil pieces into the vessel.
5. Add cooking soda little bit in the vessel.
6. Let the vessel be on the gas for some more time.
7. Slowly the silver lamp or plate will be clean .
8. Take the silver item out of the vessel and put it in cold water.

Tip 2:

Clean the silver items with your tooth paste. Just clean with the tooth brush itself. It will be sparkling.

This experiment was explained by one of my daughter's friends in the school science exhibition.

Dear prabha,

Sorry to butt in. this experiment is called reversing the oxidation of silver where aluminium foil acts as the catalyst.

the aluminium foil should be placed in such a way that it is in contact with the silver item....but you have to be careful when you put in cooking/baking soda...as it tends to foam and overflow....

but it is a fool proof method which i use at home..and have given the detail experiment in silver cleaning thread aslo.

Hi dear friends,
it is indeed a great idea of cleaning silver sparkle with your tips
i am also having few to include with your tips.
1. you can clean the silver vessel-lamps etc with vibuthi/thiruneeru and wash with water can make the silver items sparkle
One more amazing one recently i bought it from chennai shops is Rooperi . It is a liquid form and u can wipe the silver items with it using a nice clean cloth and wash the vessel after that. Really amazing miraculously you can find your silver item sparkle like a new one.

Hello All,
We get a silver cleaning liquid in the super markets, I use them.
Usually in winter the silver ornaments will trun dark.

Nice tips ladies.

I use Wright's Sliver cream. It is an extremely effective and a very simple way.

It is paste type and the box comes with a sponge. Just wet the sponge, apply the cream to it and softly rub the silver thing you want to clean. In couple of minutes wash the silver thing and it is sparkly clean. I have yet to find anything better than this!

This is available in most stores in US.

Hi,

The hot water foil method does work but please folks be careful. It can ruin your silver.First off you can not clean silver with bi-carbonate or mix sodium carbonate {soda crystals} with aluminium.. keep doing this and you will die 'literly' its very dangerous.. i see many tips for cleaning silver with household products. such as aluminum foil and soda crystals? yes it will work a little!! and will take years off your life!!! buy a bag of soda crystals and read the instructions. DO NOT USE WITH ALUMINIUM.

The best fastest creme is Wrights silver polish and it not only cleans but protects your silver also.

hi,

Put the silver articles in vessel full of sour buttermilk for 3 to 4 hrs.Then you can wash the articles as usual.

Even tooth paste can be used to make the silver sparkle.
