Absolutely my friend. Being different from others makes one unique and special just like my cousin. It is a good thing. I hope you enjoy your status as the 'misfit' in your family. Not everyone can claim to be one, you know. :) Thanks for stopping by Coffeelover.

    Dear Meena

Another one of your fabulous pieces that would make amateurs like me break into cold sweat! If I try to write anything like this, I would end up like a lowly animal painting itself with stripes to look like a tiger. That would be too pretentious indeed!

As far as I know, the first case of a ‘switch’ occurs in the Old Testament. Abraham, the great grandfather of Judah, was commanded by God to offer his son Isaac as sacrifice and Abraham proceeded straightaway to do so with his willing son standing ready to place his head at the altar. The Merciful God allowed Abraham to switch his son for a ram. There are several interpretations of this Biblical episode. Some say that God wanted to test Abraham’s loyalty while others are of the view that God would never make such preposterous demands and it was Abraham who misinterpreted God’s command. Anyway, ‘all iz well’ as Aamir Khan would say and it was the ram that got sacrificed. The event is celebrated by Muslims too as Bakrid.

During my childhood days, whenever I became too problematic for my darling mother to handle, she would mention that she got me in return for a bagful of rice bran from a milkmaid and in retrospect, she rued that decision as a bag of bran would be easier to handle than me! This surprising revelation would instantly quieten me. Years later, after I got married and like everyone else, we sat and talked a lot about our family and friends. It was then my wife surprised me saying that her mother too got her in exchange for a bagful of bran! This piece of startling information laid a strong foundation for our relationship which has withstood the vagaries of time for 43 long years till now!

Talking of switch, here is a Kamalji-like story!
A king noticed a man looking exactly like him as he was ceremoniously parading through the crowd. He beckoned this man and asked him if his mother ever worked in the palace to which the man replied,’ No your Majesty. She did not but my father did’!
