    Hi Qudsia,

I like him a little bit. Read his Room on the Roof in school and then a few short stories also..the one I remember is about a young girl selling baskets on a train station..the author is then a young man and he always thinks of stopping at this particular station to find out more abt this girl...quite a sweet story...

His writing style reminds me of R.K. Narayan...you can visualize the small towns in India in your mind while reading their stories...:)

I saw "Prisoner of Zenda" a few years back and loved the movie! Very nice!:)

    take care,
    Aarushi

    Aarushi,
You should be able to check out the Asterix and Tintin comics in the kids section of your local library. By husband would accompany me to the library and make a beeline for the children's section. The librarian would give us strange looks as we were not totting little ones along. :tongue

All this discussion about Tintin and Asterix makes me nostalgic - love those books. When we came to the US years ago and when my daughter was young, we could not find them at the local library (billions of blue bistering barnacles!!!), so we started buying them from the libraries in India - used comics. I have almost the entire collection of Asterix and Tintin - that my husband and I "revise" regularly! My daughter loved them as well and used to tell her friends about them. Glad to hear that they are available in the library now - I will have to visit to see if I can a hold of the few that is not in my collection.

Thanks Gayathri! I actually went and checked the Children's section a few times but never found these comics. At most I found some Spiderman ones...will try again and see if I get lucky...:)

    Hi Aarushi,

R.k.Narayan's Malgudi days is wonderful. similarly all his other novels.
You know, what is a must read, James Herriot. He is an animal doctor and his books are fabulous, Recently, a friend got me the dvd of the tele series"all creatures great and small" Herriot is so witty, you'll enjoy reading about his life as a doctor.
    Bye
    Qudsia.

Hi Aarushi .. Thanks for keeping an eye out for the Theatre Omnibus! I hope you have better luck than me :-D The Ruskin Bond story you wrote about was Train stops at Shamli, right?! I remember reading that story in school .. I remember it especially because we had this really interesting discussion with our teacher on how we interpreted the story .. what may have happened to the girl, was it love? .. it was fun!

Hey Gayathri .. Its really nice to come across more Wodehouse fans! I have some of his books on my comp .. mostly Jeeves and Wooster and some others. If you want them, PM me your e-mail id and I'll mail them to you.

Hi Qudsia .. We four have a nice little Wodehouse club going here, don't we! A welcome change! Can you please tell me where you found the Theatre Omnibus??!! Btw, I just finished reading a book by James Herriott and loved it! The one I read was All Things Bright and Beautiful. I agree .. he has a very warm and witty style. A must read, especially if you love animals.

Another book I recently read & loved was Mitch Albom's For One More Day .. a very touching story about a mother's sacrifices ..

I love reading comics too .. Calvin & Hobbes are my favourites!

    Happy Reading everyone!

    luv,
    Priya.
