DD has slowly started to have half a fruit a day for now....
i can clearly see how she enjoys it!
but we will be traveling to hyd and stay in a serviced apt for a week, before we get our new apartment sorted with the basic necessities....so cooking for her or us, isnt going to be possible.:idea

she will be 6 n 1/2 months old then.

i am wondering, which store bought cereal can i give her then?
cerelac/nestum.... i also saw heinz baby cereal and gerber

can i get reviews of these? why cerelac/nestum? if not, why not?i wouldnt want to buy "imported foods" if the indian equivalents are good enough.

what is the difference in these cereals anyway? pls guide:)

one more thing, i saw the process of making ragi powder here, wherein you sprout, dry fry n grind... why cant store bought ragi powder be used?

also, am i allowed to carry warm water for her feed in my cabin luggage?not really happy with the idea of bfeeding her in public. esp since its a 2 hr flight

    Pooh,

I just inquired the other day at an Organic store and they said ragi malt i.e. is sprouted ragi powder is available. I will be picking it up this Saturday. It is just incase you have the time, I prepare ragi powder with out sprouting at home, its just that its more hygenic that way, cleaned properly and then ground.

I too bumped across the Heinz Baby cereal and they seem to have some interesting flavours. I will be travelling down south in May, for me BFing should not be a problem, but I think I will stock on or two of these packs else will BF all the way :) Biscuits and water are really handy in keeping the baby quiet. I just crush the biscuits with my hand and give baby. Now we are doing oranges. I have no idea about cereals so we can have other reviews.

Most kids sleep during the travel so pray that happens, you will have a relaxed journey.

    Poonam,

from wat I know, Nestum is the rice cereal without milk in it whereas Cerelac is also rice cereal (u have so many flavours) where they have premixed the milk in it. So, babies intolerant to milk products can be given nestum...

Go with Vidyaa on this - Nestum contains no milk products (you are supposed to add them) and Cerelac is rice + milk but more convenient because there is no cooking involoved - just mix with water and feed. For babies with no allergies I'm alright with the idea of introducing small quantities of milk at around 7-8 months; if you arent then go with Nestum and add BM or formula. As for ragi after 6 months you can use regular ragi powder to make kanji - I had it ground locally, but store-bought should be fine.

    Poonam and others...

i am having some tense moments now.My dd just completed 7 months. My Pead here in the us advised me to give her 4 tbsp rice cereal or oatmeal everyday aprt from her milk and veggie.

she does great till after noon say around 3 by which i finish her 2 tbsp of rice cereal or oatmeal and then at around 5: 30 after she gets up from her nap i give her the remaining rice cereal which is when the whole drama starts.

she screams at the top of her voice and her face becomes red. just cannot see her do that. Me my MIL and MY DH try to distract her in all possible ways. i am just confused to what could be the reason..

My mil is suggesting that i give her cerelac. how is it better that rice cereal that we get here in the US.

Can i just skip that meal and give her milk instead. Please pour in your suggestion. Also i am worried that she has got into the habit of screaming. will this go and will it affect her nerves.

I will be going to India next month is there any baby specialist that i can see regarding the same,

    Please help:(
