VOILA ! I have lost some weight but behold what do I see - saggy skin , crawly strechmarks, webby veins ?

Welcome to the world of aftermath of weight loss where you will be surprised that losing weight is the least of your worries now.Yes, I am talking of women who have done a great job making gym their second home but notice that their bodily home is under attack now.

This thread does not speak a word on how to lose weight but it only discusses what accompanies weight loss and how best to avoid common pitfalls that most fail to notice the early warnings.

Do you know that your skin is the most affected organ when it comes to weight loss and ironically that is the most neglected ?

Before you start off any exercise regime or weight loss program , concentrate on moisturizing your skin daily with olive/almond oil or any moisturizing cream. It would immensely aid in keeping your skin supple. My kitchen reeks with oils of different flavours and those who visit my home often ask me do I use all those oils ? I wink and say of course I do :crazy

Drink loads of water and yes hypnotize yourself saying that you are an amphibian and cannot leave without water.Just stock your body with as much water as possible. You would notice the wonders that water does on your body when you start losing weight.

Don't worry if your workout pants are REEBOK or NIKE because what matters is not your outer wear but spend more on your inner wear (sports bra).Buy a VERY good quality sports bra.Don't even think of starting any kind of aerobic exercise without this accessory. If you are running on the treadmill then you better spend a fortune so that you know you are in safe support :thumbsup

Please do share your tips/ dos and donts that worked out for you in maintaining not only a great body but good overall appearance during your weight loss episode. You do not wanna strut out of that door wondering HAVE I LOST MORE THAN I HAVE BARGAINED FOR ?

Good one Sabitha!! What you have said is so right. We often end up looking all worn out at the end of the weight loss success. Sagging skin on the face is the first thing we notice. I am still travelling in my weight loss journey. Quite happy to declare that I did manage to shed a few and that was by being regimental about my workout routines without overdoing anything. I did not starve myself and always ate what I wanted to. Weightloss can be achieved without starving and without going on no carb diet or juices only kinda routines. It works for me, so surely it should for others too.

Moisturizing your skin - very important and drinking plenty of water.......well that is one department I am struggling. Again I personally don't think that forcing ourselves to drink plenty and plenty would help because our body can take only so much periodically. So keep replenishing at regular intervals and make a conscious effort in doing that will be my take.

I don't have any specific incident to quote at the moment. I find using treadmill very strenuous on my knees after a while. So I avoid it at the gym and prefer walking to the gym and back from the gym to compensate for that. Good thought behind this thread. Would love to hear from others too.

    saby buddy,

I have lost 13 kgs so far , and ask me what all i got in the bargain. all loose hanging clothes, a over conscious mind checking for sags...

i have a friend who is a beautician and she adviced me that doing certain excercises will ensure that the sag is not reflected on the face, and also going for massages will ensure the same..i just do the exercises and also a facial massage for myself and one through her at 2 month intervals..

Apart from drinking lots of fluids, i think the trick is not to reduce drastically. if you lose 2kgs a month allow the body to understand the weight loss and then continue losing... so far, i have been lucky.

and i still have to lose around 5/8 kgs and right now i have been on a maintaining phase for the last one month to allow the body to adjust.

having lots of greens, fruits, green tea has helped. water, I have a bottle with me all the time. i moisturise myself with intense moisturisers (as my body is extremely dry). for the face i apply aloe vera gel straight from the plant once a week. and otherdays a little of the papaya when i am cutting it, a little of the pulp from the melon...i do it immediately or i am prone to lose the momentum as pampering myself goes down the stack of my priorities most of the days.

    Waiting to hear from others...

Wowww this is super thread!! Sabitha thanks dear for starting this one! Just 10 days ago I started my workout at gym...reason..to tone up my body, but I could see after couple of workouts only (near by thigh area) that there is some loose skin...I was like yeeeks!! when did this happen...and now I do not know whether I have to be happy about the body toning up and all my skinny jeans would fit me or should I worry about this loose/thin skin...

Thanks for the tips, will keep in mind and follow them...I use moisturizers alot during winter, but summer nope as mine is oily skin...I do drink lots of water though I miss couple of times here n there...surely would keep in mind about the tips everyone shared here!

My learning so far is what Shanti has suggested...workout for couple of days give rest, give body a nice massage and then work out...so slowly the skin will also have time to adjust to the new muscle

PS: Shanti there is no garu when I addressed you this time :) hope you noticed

    Dear Sabitha,

Thanks for starting this thread. I have lost 13 kgs so far, but in a very slow pace. It took six months for me to do this and luckily I do not have any strech marks or saggy skin, may be because the weight loss was really slow but steady.

I fully agree with you that we should drink loads of water as this is the one that helped me I am guessing. Also I did not sacrifice any food, I ate everything but in small qunatities.

The mantra for my weight loss is atlest one bowl of veggies+2 fruit+3litres of water everyday :)

    My dear Saby,
always coming up with a different thread, i love this thread. Now let me give you the reasons why skin starts to sag it is becasue we drastically loose weight like 5 kg in a month, which is not good, you only need to loose one kilo a month and exercise well, loosing a kilo every month is good becasue your body is comfortable with it, losing 5kg in a month is not good becasue you are depriving your body of food and minerals, another thing a lot of women forget that while exercsing or dieting they do not have protiens in their diet, have a protien everyday in your diet, protiens helps to retain and repair musles and skin, take in lots of fresh fruits and fresh juices and veggies, include a pumpkin in your diet it containes many minerals, drink at least 2 litres of hot water through out the day or more if you can.
Lose weight slowly not rapidly, fruits play a major role as by taking fruits your skin becomes clear.
Also your sports bra needs to be good and change your trainers every 6 months when goinging to buy trainers ask them a pair foraerobis and a pair for training in the gym. If havinga problem with the knee where a knee support and at night take a ice cube put it in a handkechief and massage it over the knee the pain will go away.
    love
    alpa:cheers

You are again rocking with your new thread. Atlest this thread should give good motivation to me....Though I am also on weighloss mission, but still my skin is not saggy but becoming a little rough. May be I should start uisng Badam/Olive oil. Drinking plenty of water is making me to feel full throughout the day and my skin is reallyyy looking younger. I would say I am an amphibian now fully!!!!

These tips are going to be helpful to people like me!

    K2S,

Good to see you here.Yes, I agree because even I cannot understand the dynamics of only diet in reducing the fat of the body. Moreover I love food so this is something I can never go for even if the survival of the planet depended on me not eating.

    Great stuff shared :thumbsup

    Sri,

Glad to see you here - breather from the hustle and bustle in married forum:crazy

Yes, even I had to consciously drink water throughout the day. There was a time when I used to set reminder in my outlook to pop up periodically coz it was next to impossible to remember that I just had only 1 glass of water in 8 hours. Now I start feeling parched if I do not consume water regularly through the day.The body adjusts to what it is subjected to.I no longer have to remind myself , I start feeling thirsty every 2 hours.

I am sure you are gonna look awesome in your skinny jeans.:thumbsup
