    dear ILites,

    I would like to share with you the story of a friend of mine. she was studying to be an airhostess, and she was very concerned about her external appearance. not surprising, as air hostesses have to be presentable at all times.

    her classmates were talking about a laser treatment or chemical peel for the face, to give it a glow, or some such thing. this girl was very tempted and wanted to get one for herself too. she did not want to spend too much money, so she went to a small parlour in her village to get it done. her cousin also got it done with her.

    unfortunately, the procedure turned out to be a disaster. it affected her skin very badly, and now, bits of her skin peel off at intervals. she has to rub off the skin, and apply a medicated cream to counter the problem.

    she tells me that before she went for this treatment, her skin was fine, but she was foolish enough to go to a small time clinic, which can be identified as a 'quack' clinic. her cousin also suffers the same fate, and has a tough time in taking care of her skin.

    after all this, I still don't think she has learnt her lesson. she noticed a lady's shining shoulders when she wore a sleeveless top, and asked her what she does for that shine and glow.

    so let us all remember this example, and prevent ourselves from simply following the instructions given by our friends. what works for my skin may not work for yours. and vice versa. especially when it comes to chemical treatments and laser treatments. it will be safer if we follow the home remedies suggested by our friends, or others. or better still, we should talk to professionals like dermatologists in case of severe problems.

    thanks surya :). I was worried if I would offend anybody because we all give each other tips on this forum on skin care, hair care etc. I too suggest remedies, so by saying that it may not be wise to take somebody's advice might even be hypocritical :biggrin2:.

    anyway, I am releived that you don't find it offensive :).

    Dear CW, ofcourse you didn't post it here to offend anyone but to prevent fellow ILites from getting into traps like these. The fact that we have so many layers of skin has something to do with the prevention and protection mechanism of our body and peeling it of for anything wont be good. One of my frined's sister went to get her facial hair(luckily only chin) removed through laser treatment (and mind you this is one of THE popular skin clinics) and got many black head like things coming up now and then on her face. I dont know why we have to blindly follow people to be like a plastic doll. What beauty is there to someone who has got everything in an artificial way? Barbie is beautiful,gorgeous and lovely but I wouldn't opt to be like her because its so plasticky.

    dear ami,

    thanks :). what you mentioned, about blackheads appearing after laser treatment seems to be a common phenomenon. this is the second or third instance I have heard, about side effects of laser hair removal.

    What you have posted here can be an eye opener for many people. You did not offend anyone. Any way laser treatment is harmful and has many side effects , if not now then later in life even if done from a reputed clinic. Let the skin be natural , if u try to go against nature you will have to bear the consequences.

    yep good one!!! specially when it comes to applying chemicals or going for some treatments , people have to be verycareful, not everything suits everyone....I am damn scared of these chemical glycolic peels...heard a lot about the benefits but am happy the way i am....rather i would try some fairness creams than such treatments...

    till date i have never allowed my parlour lady to use bleach on my face during facial.I told her i dont want instant glow...and i want facial only to ensure my facial muscles get enough exercise and a good facial cleanup!!!

    I have my aunt who had severe skin allergy to an extent where her whole face has big black patches..reason she used every fairness cream that came into the market...she was like that since her childhood, she had inferiority feeling about the complexion, thats what makes girls do anything to feel better i guess :( but instead of becoming any better, it goes to worse...a lesson for every girl though
