Our appartment is surrounded by many other appartments but few empty plots are sandwiched in between.
From our balcony, seeing all pretty ladies in the road dressed in formals, casuals(very much), and few holding their kids waiting for school bus, is an interesting hobby:lol:...Except one!!!

    Thats really atrocious, i feel.:drowning
All balconies becomes a shooting point for throwing wastes, garbages straight hitting the empty plots.
Many apartments have their own dustbins to collect the cumbersome wastes of their occupants.
But where do they finally dump those? And yes, again into any of the empty plots.

To confess, though i keep on tell my MIL to collect the wastes in a basket, she'll rightly use the balcony extending its usage for what its made for.

I do tell her whenever i see her throwing the dump into that plot.

i will say, "Ma! this would become a breeding point for mosquitos if we keep on dump it with wastes".

Like a boomarang, her reply will be, "Everyone is throwing, even that lady from 7th floor. Even if i dont do,this would become a breeding point for mosquitos"

Also she will add, "i feel tired cleaning that waste bin every day. Anyways, the maid will dump the waste in some empty plot. y not we?"

    I'll keep mum, as always.

And last week, in the next street, construction work was about to start in one of those empty land.
They started digging the ground and then realised the neighbourhoods as they were not able to tolerate the foul smell of the decaying wastes which were dumped by them into that plot.

I and MIL were on a walk to the nearby grocery shop.
While crossing that area, we both covered our nose as much as we could with our duppatta.

After returning home, i started cooking and collected the vege-wastes to manure our 3 little flower pots.

When i crossed the hall, i saw my MIL standing on a stool, searching something on the laft.

I asked, "Ma, what are you searching for? May i help u?"
One hearing the reply,I smiled and my FIL gave a unbelievable gaze at her.
Her reply was, "Am searching for the waste bin"
    :)

I think this is an unwritten thing, if there is an empty plot without a high compound wall its sure to be the big TRASH can. There is a plot near to our apartment which was under some court case and so it's almost abandoned. I dont have to say the plight of the plot right? Some people even come there to answer nature's call!!!! Though none from our flat throw their garbage there, tender coconut vendors and street vendors happily use it as their dumping ground.Luckily for us they are starting some kind of construction and all the waste has been removed.

    Hello Mahisree
    Welcome to snippets.
This happens in many part of India where ladies through the waste from the windows without realising that later it is they who will have to suffer with bad odour, and you fall sick most of the time becoz the surrounding is not clean.
Your post is an eyeopener to many who does this, now they can think twice before throwing the waste out of the window.
Hahaha so at last your MIL want to use the the garbagebin where she counldn't tolerate the smell when she went out ehh....that is really sweet of her.
Hope we get to read more from you.

    Dear Mahi
This is your maiden thread in Snippets and I should say this is more like a century in the first match in cricketing parlance! It is beautifully narrated with a warm ending. When I started reading it, I thought you were going to give us a lecture on our civic duties but I was pleasantly surprised that it turned out to be more on human reaction to a civic problem. You have nicely brought out that as long as we are not personally affected, we give a damn to our social responsibility. But when the stink of our misdeeds hits us, we get transformed!
A good piece of writing Mahi. I look forward to more from you
