Muthu, A true friend

I dont remember when I met her first. She is my friend even before I started remembering her as my best friend. Her house is just 4 houses away from mine. so it is more or less like in a same house only.

Like me she also have five sisters and one brother. she was good at her education but had some principles like she will not marry an ordinary man etc . That time we thought she wanted to marry a rich fellow. I got married first and she was the main person to help my mother in doing all the arrangements for that. she used to take care of my mom after my wedding. Also when I was in the hospital for my delivery, she will come daily thrice to the hos with the food, take care of the baby help my mother in the clothes, entertain me with something etc. whenever my mother started telling about her marraige, she will tell it will not be an ordinary one. I used to tease her that her rajakumaran will come one day in a horse thinking that she wants a rich handsome fellow.

Then I came to know that she got a job in chennai and went there and that her parents also shifted there to be with her. We had touch with each other now and then and one fine morning I heard from my mother that she got married and that too a man who is a handicapped one. The next time I went to my village I heard that muthu's father has come, so I rushed to meet him. He was so week and old and he had some paralytic attack and came here with the mother to take rest. when I entered he couldnt speak to me but his eyes were filled with tears and he told the words that , Your muthu has cheated me . This too aunty only made me understand and she explained that this man is not having both the legs and his life is in the wheel chair only and he is much older than Muthu. He was a well educated good hearted person and tried to turn muthu away from this wedding. But we all know how she is and they got married and started their life.

Within a week after I met uncle, I heard that he died in the village itself. First time in my friendship with muthu, I felt very angry and upset with her and I stopped writing letter to her. After few years I had a letter from her that she had a baby girl and named her after me. Even then I didnt try to contact her but had touch with her other sisters. after few more years she came to my village for some family function and my mother was very happy to see her and wrote me that she looks more beautiful now, having two girls and seems to be well settled. My heart melt with that and I decided next time going to chennai I will meet her.

Then came the news that her husband has passed away of heart attack and that too when muthu was at my village with the children. He was there in mumbai to attend some international conference for the handiapped or something. I couldnt go to chennai immediately to meet her because of my family problems. Days have passed and I had a chance to go to chennai to my sisters house so decided to meet muthu this time. Me and my immediate sis went to their house and she was eagerly awaiting in the gate with the usual smile. The girls were tall and good in education but she told the first one is having some severe heart problem.
I saw three very elderly ladies in the house who were her sils and not having any children. She is taking care of all of them and they also seems to be affectionate with her. That day I came back home with a very heavy chest. I remembered uncle and his tearful look.

Now both the girls got job in US and are there and muthu is going there now and then and last time I met she told that she is looking for alliances for both the girls, since the first daughter is having problem , a life partner ( Marriage just to live with ) for the first one and usual type for the second. I prayed god that both the girls should get very understanding husbands who should allow the girls to take care of muthu.

I always consider muthu as a very good human being, an excellant friend, affectionate wife, dutiful DIL, lovely mother etc etc but in the corner of my heart I couldnt consider her as a good daughter. But then no person can be a 100 % in all the aspects.

it is nice to see your fb after a gap. how is your work load now. Sure, I am keeping in touch with muthu, dear. Whenever I am in chennai , am meeting muthu without fail. I am happy that atleast the girls are excellant in their studies and got settled well. I am waiting for the good news of their wedding. thanks for the fb dear.

I like to make friendship and I am having lots of friends in my village, school, office, qrs and now in indus etc. but muthu is the MUTHU among all my friends.
