    MOTHER OF CHOICE:

Ravi was in the toilet. his mother was screaming, mundame why don’t you finish fast, others have to go in,
Ravi knew his dad was not around and his step mother pushpa was always at him, he came out and put on his uniform and shoes got ready and started walking towards school, as he started walking hunger pinched him, how much he missed his mom, who died in an accident when he was just four and today he is just two years away and so many things happening, he thought …god am I a bad boy that you are punishing me so…why did you take away mom from me?

Kala was a kind soul who stayed just a few houses near Ravi’s school Kala’s husband had ran away with another woman as she could not beget a child so she worked as housemaid in several houses.

she saw him coming down and knew by his downtrodden look that he had had nothing to eat. she worked as housemaid in four houses where they all gave good breakfast, so she ran inside the house where she was working now, amma, I want some boost or milk, no coffee today., joyce would ask is that Ravi coming down, you never take anything to drink or eat kala.. is ravi your son that you take so much care. Good soul be on your way with boost then but come back soon I have to go out she said. people who employed kala knew that she had a soft corner for poor little ravi. So all of them took turns in the four houses and never refused any eatables that kala ,asked for.. she would carry some puri or idli, or upma or parotha whatever she had in a tiffin box for him, and feed him with her own hands. and also give him the milk or boost.

Ravi ’s hunger knew no bounds and he was always happy to see kala any day, she would clean his mouth with her saree pullav after the break fast and send him to school, some times, she even brought him sweets, though he never knew from where. Nowadays he started looking forward to kala whenever he left the house.

Once his father was back all would be normal, dad would bathe him and then give him something to eat as his young wife had twin girls to care for, and ravi would run down with glee and that day kala would know he did not need anything that day.. His little sisters adored him as they grew but the mother was always very calculative thinking he might inherit the property and she and the girls would be on the street some day, and so on, so she detested the young child.

Slowly the absence of a father was taken over by kala, he went up to high school depending on her, later the little sisters joined hands and started serving him some breakfast rebelling their mother, so there was some change there, but he never could go away without saying bye to kala. When he finished his college with a wonderful Engineering degree and got a gold medal, the first thing he did was started enquiring about kala in the neighborhood, and found she was hanging clothes on the top in a house she was working , he ran up to her, lifted her above the ground and kala was too over whelmed with his love, then he put the medal around her neck and told her, my father paid the fees but the love that you showed me gave me the energy and boosted my ego, so here I am.

Kala enjoyed this motherhood, and today the little one has grownup.! . Ravi left for Bangalore to join wipro he was selected in the campus interview , and carried all his luggage of clothes, he will miss the little sisters who were very cute and loving to him, his father in his own subdued way showed he cared. His mother had to come to terms with ravi . he had kala to replace motherly love in adundance.

After a year, Ravi came back, he met his little sisters and gave them some gifts like clothes and jewellery. Some money for his father and step mother.

Ravi had found a nice accommodation for himself in Bangalore , and was very happy with a company car and all the amenities, he went directly in search of kala who had become a little tired of doing housework , he found her hut in the slums and knew her condition, ravi picked up her clothes and what little things she had as her belongings.. you are coming with me he said…She asked him what he was doing packing her clothes and all…, Ravi said `your son has come to take you home, you will no more work anywhere but for me, cook for me, I have servants to do all what you will command’’…and the taxi left to the airport, his father had a tear, but understood what he missed giving him, the little ones waved. He will fulfill his commitment to them…the journey began with his mother of choice….and kala was all smiles...SUNKAN

    true shanthi,
been to an orphanage where i saw things which left me without sleep for a month and guilt ridden for 6 months, so it is the harsh things that come forward. i saw there a child fall badly, and none to pick him up to console, as all were orphan and after sometime he got up dusted himself and ran to join the crowd, it was pathetic but true, thats life, sometime some relation somewhere have an impact in our mind, i had a indu in my mind who took complete care of me, coaxing to drink the milk showing me the moon when as a child i did not have my foster parents so involved.
that may be, i dont know generated this fiction in my mind...sunkan

anyday srini, nothing can change that, u know my perimma and perippa just by feeding all great things when we were young captured all our hearts and i had to share them with all my cousins, so when one day he died, sathya's son who was a little fellow then, is saying why appu thatha had to die, when we asked why?. the answer was who will get us icecream any more, he used to load us all into the care, whoever wants icecream get into the car, and no age there, my perimma will be the first one, and all the kiddos will follow, so small little share leave behind great impressions...sunkan

    Dear Sunkan

Very nice story and a real touchy one... Water came out of my eyes wtihout my knowledge....

I heard a saying.... that if one door is closed then another door gets opened.....

Sharing the love and affection without any expectations is great..... But when the same is reciprocated the happiness u feel is something u cant express in words.........

    thanku kamalji,
motherhood is the nature's gift to woman, and she can share it anywhere, why even the men enjoy that motherhood instinct and i am sure bhabhi would agree with me if i were to know her, and tell openly about ur tantrums demanding her attention...sunkan
