Yesterday I stopped my self from writing when I read a story on one of the websites how a woman after struggling 6 years with courts, police, CPS, day in and day out went back to India after the court granted her divorce but shared custody. She took the 4 year old son with her without court permission. She said she has gone through hell and has fought tooth and nail to prove she is good mother. But she cautioned it was her view , others view on her may differ. She was very happy to return to India with her son as she was with close relatives and family and was advicing other to try to return to India who have been living in self exile sought to experience the bliss.

Also yesterday I heard about a month old case in Mumbai where a couple along with their 8 year old son were burnt alive in their home . They turned out to be my friends acquiantance. So I was deeply moved by that story too. But that was accidental fire caused by short circuit and not a domestic violence episode fortunately.

Come today I open msn and read this news where a Indian woman from Tamil nadu hurls toddler in cold hudson river and jumps too in New york .

These are her statements as per website

"She said she was sad and lonely and angry at her husband and that she did this horrific act on purpose"

"She made clear that she threw her baby in to the freezing river in order to get back at her husband," he said, arguing successfully that the mother be held without bail

So to get even with the husband is to throw baby in the river? Couples fight over kid, they dont want to give custody of the child to get even , but can go to this extent that they can take lives of their own kids.

Why do people think they can take lives of anyone they want in marital discord? Its crazy indeed what marital disharmony can do to people lives.

Children must not be victims of adults discord. God (if there is one) save all the children that are affected by bad marriages.

    Hi Tridev

The institution of marriage has become off late an institution of violences. It is so scary to apply / enter / enrol oneself into this insitution.

Of course the act of Mrs. Prithviraj is to be deeply condemned, I wonder how much she must have been going thru alone in an alien country to commit this act of throwing her own baby into the river.

If proved, she is liable for 25 years of jail!!!!! She looked forward to get peace out of her act, but now caught under different act resulting in a different Jail (Home / Jail) without the family. What a pity.............

I am extremely disturbed reading this, and feeling scary to send our daughters to another persons' homes in the name of marriage to go thru the violence and loneliness in far off lands............

    BR
    Shanti

    Tridev,

    Thanks for the URL.

No matter how lonely, frustrated etc she felt in her marriage she had absolutely no right to attempt to kill her daughter. Killing herself is a whole different issue. I still wonder how a mother can kill her own blood unless she is mentally unstable unable to comprehend what she is doing

This lady doesn't deserve time with her daughter anymore. I know I may sound rude but I hope they keep her away from her kids.

    Shanti,

Violence/Loneliness/Abuse in a marriage is dependent on the
attitude/mentality of either spouse irrespective of which country they are in.
I bet there are several cases like this in India as well. Correct me if I am wrong.
I feel financial independence, maturity in handling issues, strong moral support from a good group of friends/parents are very critical for any person to handle a bad marriage.
I myself have suffered a lot in the initial 2 yrs of my marriage and there were a couple of instances I felt I should get back at my husband by hook or crook but fortunately my mom talked me out of it and today me and my DH are slowly building up love and trust in our marriage one block at a time.

I agree in far off lands a wife might not have a good network of friends but there are folks back home to talk to. If there is a will I bet the wife can find a way out instead of resorting to such atrocious acts of violence.

I feel marriages are more often becoming death trap , people are miserable in marriages these days. Yesterday I read another story where a lady from India living in California, burnt herself and her kid and died. Her second child was saved as she was with neighbors. I will paste the link when I get hold of.

I share same feelings like you to get kids married.

This is not one story, numerous stories around. Many times mothers who commit suicide take their kids with them. In 2004 I was in Hyderabad and the apartment we were living had a incidence before the building was completed. A lady with 2 kids aged 9-11 ages jumped to death from terrace. All three died , bodies were lieing down people said . Thankfully we were not there then to see all that. She was married to a lawyer and had terrible marital discord. People say she was on railyway line to commit suicide few hours before but was unsuccessful. Later she jumped with kids to death....

Children are getting squeezed in between terribly. These are educated folks we are talking about and not some uneducated and insane people

I get deeply moved with such stories.
