    Hi
I have been stomach issues for almost 3 weeks now, and am unable to pinpoint to a definite problem. I am in the process of getting medication, but thought I will also check with the IL folks if someone has some thoughts on this..
I have always had more gas than a normal person would, but it became excessive about 3 weeks back, accompanied with stomach aches. The pain would start just at my rib cage and move down till my navel after 2-3 hours. Unless I pass this gas, I don't feel relief. My doc suspected a urine infection, though the culture sensitivity came negative. I went through a course of general medication. About 2 weeks back the problem recurred with excessive loose motions for 2 days. This time the doc said that maybe it is acidity combined with an amoebic infection..and gave me a medication course accordingly.
I will finish the course today, but from the past 2 nights, I have had consistent stomach pain right in the middle (naval area), and again till I pass gas, I do not feel relief. It feels like till I have digested what I have eaten, it doesn't stop! My motions are now normal. The doc said that if this persists, he would advise for further tests.
I am just wondering if anybody had a similar problem..and if yes, what did you do to treat it..? In fact, is it just acidity related or something more...
    Any help would be great!!

    Hi

Yes... it can be alarming pains, if you have gastric problems. You can try ayurvedic medicines if you feel all the tests done in allopathy is normal. There can be some imbalance in your system which leads to this kind of uneasiness. In Chennai there is Kottakkal Arya Vaidya sala agency the branch office of kerala's main centre, i wdnt know if they have a branch in your place.Try calling the Chennai office thay can help you to get any local address.:thumbsup

Try beno before eating food. Also charcoal capsules available from internet sites like heath food stores carry them. Carbon in the charcoal reduces gas. Also use asaphodita in cooking and buttermilk. All these are very helpful in gas problems. One of my family members has that problem. Hope you find relief. If it is acidity you have to take pepcid which if over the counter.:)

    hi vmtaurus,

Even i would suggest ayurvedic medicine. I myself had such a high acidity problem post -partum. I consulted the Drs. in KAPL [ since u'r profile says u're in BLR, u can find one in whitefield bus stop - pls note KAPL name has recently been changed and am not sure of the new name.] and the medicine really worked. It has been almost 3 years now and i've no trace of the problem. But, dietary restrictions apply and are a must in this process.

Temporarily, what i would suggest is soak methi seeds in the night in water [ a tsp would do ] and eat them in the morning empty stomach. Also, avoid tamarind, garlic, v. spicy foods , garam masala. Replace ginger with dry ginger powder. If u know tamil, then i would suggest manathakkali greens [ i'm not sure of the english name. i forgot the kannada name too. This greens is available in the market and it bores black colour small fruits , green if the fruit stage is not reached ] . Include it in y'r diet and 've lumpsum amt of this . It really works. The other one is banana stem juice.

    Thanks for your tips Sabari.
I didn't go to any institute, but have brought it under control through diet and careful eating habits. I have completely stopped eating outside..esp. spicy foods (at least for sometime!)
Actually my diet is very mixed, with all vegetables, chapathis and rice. I have seen that with rice I feel very heavy and lethargic and this slows down my digestion even further...so I try to avoid rice as much as possible, if I do have, i reduce the portion size, so I don't feel bloated.
Banana stem, i have often, not in a juice form, but as a curry, raita or mor kozhumbu. Will work at getting to drink the juice!
Also, hot water seems to help. I have a glass after every meal.

    Thanks Achoo.
I have brought is under control now..with careful diet and some few tips..
I want to avoid taking medicines for this, as I feel it should be controllable with diet, unless the problem turns very acute.
I use a LOT of asfoetida in my food..i just love the taste and smell of it! :)

Can you tell me what is beno? I have no idea what it is....

    vmtaurus,

pls don't mention. I didn't know hot water helps - thx for the tips . When u take rice, avoid raw rice and substitute it with parboiled rice. Use parboiled rice for idli / dosa too.

U're already on the right path . u'll get well soon. All the best.

    Hey

Sorry I have not read the answers. I will tell you my personal exp. I have has gastric troubles since my childhood. If I travel early in the morning I can't pass motion, eat anything and end up with motion sickness. I can't go in a ride in the PArk. I have heart burns, gas with gurggling sounds and loose motion at times. No tablets really work for me.

My ayurvedic doc finally gave me these tips which really work:

Avoid non veg inclu eggs. Only once a month or less.
Avoid sour items inclu curd, tamarind and too much of tomatoes.
Avoid masalas, spices, green chillies etc.
    Use black pepper in foods.
Drink lots of light butter milk with a pinch of salt, cumin and black pepper all through the day until eve.

With these simple things my gas is mostly under control.

Thanks for your tips Raisin..i have done some similar curbs and now my stomach is much better.
I realised the best thing for me was to break down my 2 meals to 3-4 smaller meals as this doesnt allow gas to form..plus i have (as far as possible) only homemade food.
    This has helped so far.
