வயலும் வயல் சார்ந்த இடமும்
மருதம் என படித்ததுண்டு - இது
மருது என்ற மரத்தின் மலர்
மருதம்

புராணங்களின் படி சீதைக்கு
பிடித்த மரமாம் இந்த மருதம்,
மேலும் பல மருத்துவக்
குணங்களை கொண்டது

சின்ன சின்ன விண்மீன்களை
நூல் கொண்டு கோர்த்தினார் போல
அழகிய இளம் மஞ்சளும், பச்சையும்
கலந்த வண்ணத்தில் சிறு மலர்கள்

மேலே அடர் பச்சையும், கீழே
லேசான பழுப்பு வண்ணமும் கொண்ட
நீள் வடிவ இலைகள், மரத்திற்கு
குடையாய் வளரும் கிளைகள்

மார்ச், ஏப்ரல் முதல் ஜூன், ஜூலை
வரை மலர்ந்து, செப்டம்பர் முதல்
நவம்பர் வரை கனிகள் தரும் மருதம்
நதிக்கரைகளிலும், ஓடக் கரைகளிலும்
அதிகம் காணப்படும்

Medicinal uses : The Bark of the Arjuna tree contains calcium salts, magnesium salts, and glucosides has been used in traditional Ayurvedic herbalism Juice of its leaf is used to cure dysentry and earache. Arjuna helps in maintaining the cholesterol level at the normal rate, as it contains the antioxidant properties similar to the Vitamin E. It strengths the heart muscles and maintains the heart functioning properly. It also improves functioning of cardiac muscle. Arjuna is used for the treatment of coronary artery disease, heart failure, edema, angina and hypercholesterolemia. Its bark power possesses diuretic, prostaglandin enhancing and coronary risk factor modulating properties.
