Dear Sudha I am writing this post as per your request. When I told you this morning that I got another saree from my sis in law for New Year as a gift you told me write about your craze for sarees in snippets. So I am fulfilling your farmayish. Yamini wanted to come to poem forum and write a poem. Though I am not so good in writing poems like them but still I went and wrote a poem for her. Other day Soldier was telling that when I won the award for Aha Moments that I will be writing in snippets about that. Immediately I came here and wrote. Everyone knows here that whatever happens in my life, next moment you can read in snippets. Thats me cant hide anything, like to share my experiences with everyone especially with IL.

From the time I started wearing sarees I always had a craze for sarees. I still remember the saree which was gifted to me for my cousin sister's wedding. It was yellow colour with black prints in it. That was my first gift of saree. Those times we used to get sarees only for Diwali. We did not have any birthday celebrations. so nothing new for birthdays.Where there was money those days. My dad had to struggle hard to bring us up. So we never expected also. After we started earning used to buy sarees, that too limited only because we had to wear to office. Till my sister got married me and my sister used to share the sarees. My sister was a very simple person and that time only she did not have any desire. I was the opposite of her fond of everything in the world and liked to enjoy life. Any new saree she will tell me to wear first then only she used to wear. In the office if anyone is jealous of her saree then she wont wear that saree only till it is new. Very rarely u will get a sister like that, otherwise sisters are always fighting to own everything themselves.

When my uncle and aunty used to come from Delhi, my aunty always used to get a saree for both of us me and my sister and also give her saree to wear for office. That time I used to think when I get more salary I should buy lot of sarees and should have one saree to wear everyday. This dream of mine got fulfilled only after my marriage and I had enough money to buy sarees according to my wish.

When I was working we had a saree shop near our office and myself and my friend were regular visitors there. Knowing our craze for sares whenever new type of saree used to come the shopkeeper used to tell us and we were there to buy.

Before marriage once I wanted to wear pure silk saree for the 9 days during Navratri, my friend and my sis in law helped me to fulfill my wish. Buying ordinary sarees was ok but to buy pure silk sarees was difficult. But that also got fulfilled after my marriage. Could not buy very heavy sarees but less price ones. Got many pure silk sarees for occasions from others also. For my husband's 60th Birthday got many sarees and also for his 70th Birthday. When I was working my cupboards used to be full with sarees. So much craze I had. I used to exchange sarees with my cousin sister and also with my sister whenever I used to go to Delhi. My sister never buys sarees like me so used to give my best sarees to her.

Since I could not buy much sarees before, after I got opportunity to buy sarees I used to give away sarees to my husband's niece and to people who cant buy much. The more I used to give the more I used to get back from others.

When I used to travel by contract bus the ladies who used to go for walk used to admire my sarees. I never knew about it and came to know one day when a lady told me that you sarees are all very good and everyday we wait to see which saree you will be wearing today. In my contract bus also everyone used to appreciate my taste for sarees. It seems another lady who used to go by scooter with her husband used to admire my sarees.

Now the latest u all know I got sarees from Sudha and Saroj and their gift bought me luck as I got another saree from my sis in law.

I think I will end here with my saree puranam otherwise you people will get bored of this long post as usually I dont write such long posts.

    Viji Aunty,

Nice post. I have always seen Sudha only in chudis. I did not know she had a liking for sarees.

As for me I like to wear crisp sarees - like kota sarees and others which need not be starched but yet look crisp.

I also love Mysore Silk sarees. I like Bengal Cotton sarees too. Designer sarees i dont like them that much.

    Dear Viji
While reading this post on sarees of yours was thinking of my mom and my aunty(Mom's sis) both of them are crazy about sarees almost every month they have to go for a saree shop and will never come out without a hugh bundle of sarees. Atleast mom comes out with 5 to 6 sarees but my aunt she will come with atleast 15 of them and she hardly wears them for 2 or 3 times that saree is old....hehe so she will go again to buy. They are almost your age between 60 to 65 but still like you even they craze hasn't gone.
Both of them have such lovley collections I have told them in advance, when I start wearing sarees I am going to take all that I want from here....hahaha
Nice reading your experience on sarees.
I like Mysore silk sarees and calcutta cotton sarees. Mysore silk I have around 6 to 7 I think but i hardly wear as they are all given by someone or the other.
Cotton sarees I had 2 but since I don't wear much I gave it to my SIL these were also gifts from someone. I hardly buy sarees....hehehe only last time when I visited India for holidays that time I had been with aunty for the saree shop that time I had liked one saree so I brought it and got a nice blouse stitched from my cousin(whom you have met in andheri) now in Aug it will be 1 year for the saree and I havn't wore it still....hehehe

Very beautiful note about your saree collection, (which show us your passion for sarees) and your craze for new and different types of new sarees, Viji mam.
Sarees always seems to be the favorite dress of an Indian woman, even if we do not wear them regularly. On special occasion even a teenage like to wear them and buy good designer one, which are available in plenty now.
    Regards
    Shanta

VIJI AKKA You seem to have started a krishna saree thread, wow whats beauties, what design, what imagination, what combination, what texture, what fall ,what comfort, what wholesome draped look, what softness,.....i can goooo on......till marriage i never had any craze for saree, i had better dress to wear. After marriage saree was the only allowed thing, not that i did not like it,----I ADMIRE PEOPLE, IN SAREE,AND MYSELF TOO.
TILL I WAS NAMED SAREE CRAZY,-----I USED TO DO ALL HOUSEWORK MYSELF IN ORDER TO BUY SAREES,I NEVER USED TO VENTURE OUT, The saree sellers can smell saree lovers in one sight , the way we ouhh, ahha about it, every month they will come and i used to buy 3 or more and pay in installments---the sellers used to love me, but afraid of my husband, he used to shout at them-"Another time i see you here-----" begin an police officer, they used to wait till his jeep left and come, with my treasured possessions---and used to sit confused because all good designs i used to like, and get confused, helping me the seller would advice me to take all because i loved it, at that time i was around 23 or something, so they became rich.
After that there was no place in my cupboard to keep any more,Did not affect me i started packing in innovative ways so that i could fit more in less place---one day my ---SIS came and opened the cupboard lots of saree fell, she smiled and said' Anni this is enough for me"---immediately I arranged the cupboard better---she still remembers it---actually they used to come only to see my selection---as it was usually different, and rare........write more later as i can go on as you said-------kudos to you for starting this thead:bonk:bonk:bonk

    Hi Viji,

Very nice thread. And happy to know about your craze for sarees.

I love sarees very much. If I go for shopping and see any nice sarees I use to buy it, but only thing I wear saree once in a while, may be once in a year. Only thing is I won't feel comfortable in saree.
Saree gives beauty and elegant look to women.

Thank you very much for this thread Viji.
