    Hi alll..... :cheers

Im having my hindu wedding in November and want to buy the sarees in chennai.....because I'll be in chennai only for 3 days I want some tips from you....

Which is the best time to come there?( before "aadi" or after "aadi"? )

I dont want to come there during the sale time and get crushed... :)

Which is the best Pothys Vs RMKV Vs Chennai silks? (selection wise not the price.)

Do they close the shops for a certain period of time after "aadi sale" ?

What are the newest designs in wedding sarees? and what are the colours allowed for the second sari? (mukurtha sari , apart from maroon and red?)

Any other tips from anyone who bought recently?

You can come after adai sale itself if you don't like rush...

For New trendy patterns you can try Sundari Silks ,Palam Silks,Nalli, RMKV check their websites - all are in Tnagar/Pondybazar only...

Pothys,Kumar silks also you can try

For Muthurtham unless your parents/in laws have any traditional colors you can choose any color... You can try organe, yellow , Green - considered as Auspious colors...

    My rating is as follows:-

    1. Nalli - Quality is no compromise :thumbsup. No fake pricing. No sale/no discounts nothing.'N' number of options in pattern/price and color. You have two branches. One is in in Panagal park next to kumaran silks. This is the oldest showroom, quite spacious so you will not feel the crowd. You can peacefuully shop here.tehre is another branch called "new nalli" or "nalli 100".This is opposite too Pothys. These have more trendy patterns.Check both the shops and then come to a decision.

    2. Kumaran silks - Similar to nalli. But toomuch of crowd. This is in panagal park very next to nalli silks.

    3. Palam silks - Very small shop but you can find all trendy patterns here.Google for Palam silks,Chennai. You'll find the website.Best place for latest and modern collections both in silk sarees and other varities.

    4. RMKV

    5. Pothys

Dont wait for any seasonal offers or discounts for wedding purchases. The first 3 stores dont avail them. But the prices are mmoderate.

    Supriya,

I also go with Cindhuja's options.

Recently we got a light pink wedding saree for my sis-in-law from Old Nalli for 35k. Old Nalli is considered sentimental and auspicious by our family.

I am a regular visitor of Paalam Silks for trendy silk sarees in the 3k-5k range. But we felt Nalli had more of the traditional sarees. And old people in the family wouldn't like Paalam sarees ...v had big trouble when we gifted sarees from Paalam for old people..they stick to conventional big border silk saree designs only.

First check Paalam ..its not crowded and they have few collections. If you dont feel anything good in Paalam go straight to Nalli.

    Cindhuja,
I got a very beautiful saree for my mom from Paalam for my brother's marriage. The designs were of dull gold finish and dull gold saree is costlier than normal jiggu jiggu gold borders and u wud b knowing that even in bangles dull gold(antique finish) bangles r costlier than normal gold bangles.

I was shocked wen my relatives called me and scolded me for getting such a saree for my mom...all of them had only 1 comment..Its too simple for a boy's mom to tie during the marriage.:rant

I got so irritated with our trichy makkal's taste....everyone is very particular about the thickness of the border and not about the colour or the design of the saree.

I am very particular about unique designs and dont like repetitive patterns...and got heavy feedback from my relatives.

So for people with conventional thoughts and those looking for traditional patterns should not go to Paalam...thats the message I want to say....:crazy

True shubini...We cant try few patterns out of madras :rant:rant..oru metre'ku jari border and colors like yellow, blue, green alone are accepted ..What to do silly people :coffee

I always go for a unique and trendy pattern..and ofcourse experience tons and tons of criticism for it :bonk:bonk

Check Nakoda in Trichy, they too have trendy patterns(but not silk sarees)

    HI Everyone....

Thanks for the valuable feedback.....I dont know much about Nalii or palam.....if u hadnt mentioned I wouldnt have visited.:thumbsup

I am a very modern and trendy person....Though I will buy in the colours that are allowed....I want something unique, young and trendy.... :coffee

(not like what my mum or mum in law wears....huge border and jiggu

    jiggu... :)

I am really looking for the non-shiny type of sarees....in different combinations and the most newest designs....

Even mukurtham, i will choose in auspisious colour but no jiggu jiggu..:biglaugh

I think its called matt finish pattu :thumbsup

I am looking at around 20,000- 35,000 for each sari...

Did any one of you see the gold sari any where recently...?(what jeyam ravi's wife wore)...and how much was it... ?

My mum, mum in law and bf have given freedom to choose what i like so I want something which fits these descriptions...:thumbsup

Eventhough i am ready to spend these amounts I would like to keep the cost down because I am in melbourne and dint get the chance to wear a saree since I came here( 8 months bk).

All the latest designs I brought are lying in my cupboard.... :hide:

And, since the sales ppl in all these shops treat you really well if you are from abroad :hiya Im really looking forward to my trip :)

    lol

    Supriya,

I saw the gold sari with dark brown border in Old Nalli for 20k.

It was too good..they also had a grey gold mix in the similar pattern.

If u go to Old Nalli ask the sales people to take u upstairs...they have steel almirahs where new/costly sarees are stored. So remember to go upstairs and see the designs.

I have heard about Nakoda....do they stock readymade/unstitched salwars also. I am starting to Trichy today...tell me some gud shops for designer sarees and salwars there.

My only choice s Chennai silks..do u have any ideas?

I need to gift my sis-in-law....I was thinking of shopping @ Nungambakkam....man mandir/rangoli...but I stay in Tambaram n shopping @ Nungambakkam has always been a dream for me n difficult to find time n energy to travel that far.

In Trichy its relatively easy to go around places n less crowded shops.....if u take an auto u can reach anywhere in 15-20 mins..:)

At Trichy I dont want to get silk sarees...I m looking for a designer saree n salwar....pls pour in some suggestions.
