    Hai ILS,
I need advise from u all. My boy is studying in UKG.
For the past 15 days, i noticed that he is watching TV very closely. So, I consulted a doctor. He told that my boy has power( -0.05 in left, and -0.75 in right side eye).
But, he told that we will wait for 3 months and prescribed a vitamin syrub.I am very much worry about it.Now, i am giving that syrub and some vitamin A veg and fruits. But, he doesn't like to eat spinnach, carrot and almost all vegitables.
Please, help me to give some suggesstion to avoid this short site power.
I hope u definetely give me ideas.
    Thank you .

Ktk - I dont think that waiting will make this problem disappear. Neither will giving Vit A or eating carrots etc. help in normalizing a refractive error. Some people have mentioned eye exercises which supposedly help but IMO you had best make up your mind that your DS will need glasses and help him learn to use them properly.

    Dear ktk/Vanathi,

This specs thing always keeps me worrying.Even my kid goes near the TV and watches it.But when I ask her to sit at a distance and watch she sits in the sofa and watches TV.

And when I ask her to read some letters from a distance she reads it properly. She is 4 years old.Wwhen I am not there she will again go near the TV and watch.

Ktk , How else did you figure out that your kid requires doctor's advise?

    Hai vanathi and Bhuvindhi,
    Thanks for ur reply.
Yes, vanathi, now i have to get ready to face this problem. But, he is very active boy. He didn't sit on one place. So, I need to know that there is any possiblity to avoid it. I accept u. Now, i am teaching him some excercise.just see right side 2 seconds, then up, then left, atlast down. He is also doing that. Do u know any other excercise?

    Bhuvindhi,
I too was in ur situation. After noticing,he was watching TV closely.I checked him whether he could easily read the letters at certain distance. But he couldn't able to read some small letters. Then only, we went to the doctor.
Don't worry about ur girl. According ur words, i think that she has no problem. But, don't allow the computer games. This is my experience. I allowed my boy for 1 hour daily to play games in computer. i think that is my fault.
    O.k. take care.

Ktk, Thanks for the soothing words. She started playing a lot of games for the past 2 days.I think I need to stop that. Her father wears specs and I had my Lasik done to avoid spectacles.Hence there is a high probability for her to wear spectacles. That is the reason we are very much worried actually.

    Thanks once again,
    Regards!

Dear Ktk, Is your son able to read till 20/40 from 10 feet distance? If it is so,then he is perfectly alright as kids below 5 years can read only that much(as per this site, though the doctor can tell us better). For kids we need to take them to pediatric opthamalogist than to the usual opthamalogists we(adults) go.
After I saw your thread , I took my kid to an opthamalogist and he said she has power that too he gave a very high number.I was totally devastated.I wanted to take her to another opthamalogist for a second opinion.Because she is able to read this chart till 20/32 from 10 feet distance.

He checked her and he said her vision is good and she is able to read what the kids of her age would read. This doctor suggested that we need to take kids to Pediatric opthamologist(if I really want to confirm what he said since I told him that another doc said she has power). Also he suggested few hospitals in chennai who have a pediatric opthamology division. He strongly suggested she need not wear glasses.Though we are relieved, we will be taking her to check up every month from now on and we are travelling to India soon for her eye checkup.

Dear Lalitha , He told that shankar nethralaya and Agarwal hospitals are good in Chennai.

And he told a name of one hospital in coimbatore .He said it is extremely good.I think it is Arvind hospital or something similar to that.Sorry for my bad memory.Since I was planning to have her checkup at chennai , I did not give much attention to Coimbatore one.
