    Hello all,

    Would you know if there is a soft copy (downloadable) of the book "Paalangal" by the famous writer Shivashankari?

    Also, would anybody be aware whether there are any good Tamil novels shops in London?

    "Paalangal" book by Shivashankari

    Dear all,

    I have heard that the book "Paalangal" by the famous writer Shivashankari actually describes the finer aspects of South Indian culture and traditions very well, even though it is woven in the form of a novel.

    I was just wondering if any of you has come across this book and by any chance, is it available to read online (For a fee perhaps)? Also, would any of you know if it is available in any book shop in London?

    I couldnt find these details on the Net..hence mailing you all. I have also posted this query in the 'Books' section on IL.

    Pavithra - I have read that book many years ago - I would also be interested in reading it again. It is a wonderful book about life of a south indian brahmin. I hope someone can answer this query - in the mean time, I will also search and see if I come up with something.

    I wish I could order it online from Giri Traders...
    But it looks like they are charging almost the price of the book itself for shipping it to London :eek:

    I found that when I tried ordering 'Deivathin Kural' volumes from their website :(

    Perhaps I have to wait till I return to India !!! :(
    Thats why I wanted to check if by chance these books are available in London, may be in some exclusive shops , or in online downloadable format !!

    palangal is a very neat story about south indian hindu brahmin culture
    it also goes in detail about brahmin's traditons, cutoms and culture in diff generations
    its like a guide also becos it gives diff menus when a girl attains age, when she delivers baby what kind of food she is fed
    thanks for making me recollect this lovely story

    Long back Deat Chitra mam was telling to me about paalangal book. I tried to order it online, grinitraders online ordering policy is not good so i am waiting for my MIL to return to india so that she can buy and send it to me.

    Thanks for your replies. Your feedback has made me more eager to read this book at the earliest possible opportunity.
    In fact, in Sivasankari Ma'am's webpage, there is a 2 page excerpt from this book. When I read it, I was fascinated by the finest possible details that she has put in. I became quite emotional just after reading this small piece, I must say!
