Ha...ha...hobbies..do I have any? I completely forgot what hobbies I had because of additions to it in the recent days..so I went to my profile and confirmed that indeed I had hobbies in the past..:biggrin2:

What is a hobby? Got help from Wikipedia, instantly..maybe looking for the 'real meaning' or the 'inside meaning' for the words had become a hobby to me..:confused2:

Hobbies are practiced for interest and enjoyment, rather than financial reward. Personal fulfillment is the aim, many people find it enjoyable; so it is commonly regarded as a hobby.

Instead looking into my new addition in the name of hobby..let us see why I am thinking of doing those things as a hobby.

Interesting interpretation I heard while watching a program, on the TV.
Don't think this as an addition to my hobbies..maybe :hide: in the coming months..haha..

Let me come to the message I heard:

"To make us positive/feel/energise/look at ourselves or others around us better, it is better to switch on to the words which we were using at present, to those words which would offer the above said feelings and move forward. For eg...House-wife --- home-maker, (don't we feel better in hearing this)
Old people-----senior citizens (making them more comfortable)
Handicapped----physically challenged (making them to move forward and face the challenges and win:thumbsup)
    and the like".

To support these changes, I would like to quote a verse from Thirukkural, where it says..."why you are choosing raw fruits, when fully-ripe ones are available". Thiruvalluvar used that eg. to make us use sweet words instead of harsh ones.

Generally speaking, the person who does something for fun, not for remuneration, is called an amateur (or hobbyist), as distinct from a professional.

What these quotes in bold and Italic, had to do with my hobbies...go ahead and see the additions in my hobby list:

Cleaning the house as a whole...to feel better at home :coffeeIt is going to take months to keep it spic and span.:help

Dishwashing -- always this area is like a 'akshaya place'. :spin

Folding clothes--um..as nobody is interested in doing that at my place.:rant

In the UK, the pejorative noun anorak (similar to the Japanese "otaku", meaning a geek or enthusiast) is often applied to people who obsessively pursue a particular hobby that is otherwise considered boring.

Am I right in choosing the word 'hobby' because of the above-said reasons.. to make my work easier than to grumble :thumbsup all the time!

Dear Sriniketan - You may not believe it but yesterday I was also thinking about the same things in the same manner. Parents in India , when they are on the lookout for a groom for their daughter used to print the girl's horoscope and along with it there will be a description about the girl, mentioning her height, weight, complexion and the words 'DOMESICALLY WELL-TRAINED' will always be added to the list. They must be doing it even now.
But in the groom's horoscope I have never seen this 'DOMESTICALLY WELL-TRAINED' mentioned. So, we are trained for this HOBBY or this HOBBY is compulsory for the home-makers,or for wives like us who live in foreign countries this has to be the main HOBBY because we have no choice! Yes, I too think the word HOBBY sounds better than the dull word CHORE!
Wishing you a happy HOBBY time :thumbsup
