    Who is to blame for Adnan’s Death<?XML:NAMESPACE PREFIX = O />

Today i read the sad news about Adnan Patrawala, the 16 year old boy being killed by his 3 associates yesterday and his body thrown in Nerul New Mumbai. My condolences to his parents, who must be in severe shock and grief. The light of their eyes is no more.

The details shocked me.Adnan was 16, and driving a Skoda, which must be 15 lakhs at least, the top of the line Car.And his Orkut profile says, that he was proud of it,and one picture there shows him driving at 180 km per hr.He was in love with his laptop, and Sony Mobile.God knows since what age he was driving the Skoda. And he left home in the evening,to play pool with his new found friends at In Orbit,a new mall.He called at Midnight, to tell his parents he will come the next day.

What about the parents ? How could they allow a 16 yr old to drive a fancy car,and be away the whole night.Surely this must not be the first time this must have happened ?Arnt the parents to blame too ?I have seen many parents praising their kids sky high,as though he is the Gift of God,A human Taj Mahal.

It is true it is none of my business or anyone's to tell anyone why their son drives such expensive Cars, and have such Gadjets. It is their hard earned money, after all,and who are we to tell them how to bring up their children. But if u play with fire, there are chances you could get burnt along with others too .

A friend of mine used to gloat to me, and others, that his 12 year son drives their car, the son is so smart.I read somwhere that a boy can become a father at age 10,and a girl a mother at age 12 or 14 maybe. But are they mature enough to be parents? Are we mature enough to vote before 18 ?My father insisted that i can learn to drive only when i turn 21,which i did in 1974,and only then he permitted me to go to a driving school , get a licence, practice, and then drive.the same i did with my elder daughter,at 21 i taught her driving, though the limit was 18,and now i suppose it is 16.My younger daughter i taught at 19.She drives my 11 year old Esteem, which looks very ragged due to the ravages of time, but the Engine is good still.I told her i want to buy u a New small Car,as u now go to college and coaching classes, but she says she is comfortable with the oldie.I am proud of her, that she values money, though i can afford a new car for her.God bless her.

Today we can flaunt two things, A car and a mobile, and these have become statements.Beg,borrow, steal, but one must have these latest ones.In the olden days, the elders used to say " If u have a pretty wife, keep her under a purdah,or let her cover her head and face.that is because, an outsider can get attracted to her,and do some mischief. But today, the opposite is the vogue. It is like " If I have it, I will flaunt it."

I feel rich parents these days are pampering their kids too much,to ease their guilty consience bcs they cannot give time to their children,so to compensate that, they give in to the child's whims and fancies. And we see the repurcussions.Adnan was rich, but his friends were not,and jelousy factor comes in.The kidnapping was for money, not revenge, but things went wrong, and Adnan died.

We all envy Bill Gates and Warren Buffet, don’t we?But what we look at is their wealth. What we don’t look is at their spending habits.Buffet has donated most of his money to Charity. So has Bill Gates.Buffet owns an airline Company, but travels Business Class. He stays in his 40 year old Bunglow, and he loves to sit at home and watch movies on his TV,and eat popcorn. He dosnt wear a suit more than $ 300, drives a middle class Car,like our Esteem, which is neither too low down, nor top of the line.Same is the case with Bill. With the amount of money these two have, they live very modestly, well below their means.

Here, people with small means, will borrow from Banks, take credit from credit cards and buy depreciating assets for themselves and their kids like Cars and Laptops, going deeper into debt.Day before Hindustan Times had an article about a mobile worth 30 lakhs, made of gold and studded with sapphires and Rubies, and 15 of them have been sold in Ludhiana already.Arnt we as parents setting bad examples to our children ? That it is OK to borrow to buy such things, and flaunt them, and create hate and jelousy among friends and business circle. And the repercussions are there for all to see.

I doubt if this will teach the rich parents to go slow, and take more care of their kids.A sorry state of affairs, and you will continue to hear of more such man made tragedies, and all you can do is to just shake your head, and move on without learning.

    dear kamalji,
the news is pathetic, and sure the blame goes to the parens who want to flaunt their status through the kids, saying let them enjoy what we could not, and sure he enjoyed his last trip too soon...sunkan

I agree with your viewpoint, Kamalji. Maybe his folks did not forsee what has happened but why did they lead him to it? Unless you have a tight fist when it comes to the children, they will suffer and so will you. Though it is too late to answer the question who's mistake?
