    Hi ILites,
Today just now I found a horrible thing.I did not take pre-natal vitamins with DHA for almost 3 months period in my pregnancy.
Will it have any effect on baby's growth?
I bought 1 pack of Walgreen's Prenatal+DHA which has 60 soft liquid gels having DHA and 60 prenatal multivitamin.
But I have done a big mistake of taking vitamin tablet only 1 bottle for entire month.I did not touch another bottle given in same pack till the first bottle is completed.:rant
I am totally upset now after I came to know about my blunder mistake happened.
what can I do now?My OB/GYN didnot care much about my dosage of pre-natal vitamins in earlier stage.even when we showed the bottle I'm using they didnot check and tell me the dosage properly:drowning

i dont have any words to write here......
    what to do now?

@drpreethis - Can you please share your knowledge on the matter with me.I am 33 weeks pregnant now.thanks in advance.I will also check with my GYN or nurse tomorrow morning.I am waiting for your reply.

Dont be so worry about that.if u r taking proper diet then no need to worry. If you're eating proper diet then it's fine. Food is the best place to get your vitamins from, the pills are just a backup in case there's something missing in your diet.Have u checked youe weight?

    Hi Surekha,

I am also on only folic acid (5mg) per day and nothing else, and even continuing the same in my 4th month as due to severe nausea and vomiting my doc has refused for any other vitamins and supplements.

    Surekha,

I AM SO SORRY THAT i MISSED SEEING YOUR MESSAGE ! :bonk

Here goes my reply.. NOTHING TO WORRY ! :thumbsup

DHA is essential omega fatty acids which is good for brain and eye tissue development. BUT, our ethinicity also says more to it. Meaning, a research has shown that American women need it more since genetically their levels are low. This is what I've read in one of the world's best medical journal. Asians hve optimium amount of it.

Folic acid is more essential and to be exact, 400 mcg is required during TTC and the dose needs to be doubled once you get to know you pregnant. That is the only difference.

Even if you havent taken DHA, it is absolutely ok. Your Ob didnt care much, because you are an Indian. :) I used to take multivitamins since 2 years even before we were were on TTC which has 400 mcg of folic acid. After I got pregnant, I simply continued taking the multivitamin with an additional 400 mcg of folic acid.. But once that was all over like in the first trimester, I asked my gynec to prescribe " one " prenatal with all so that I dont have to pop in 2-3 tablets a day. That time, she included DHA.. She didnt panic that I didnt take it in 1st trimester, nor did I ! :)

You must have gone through all the scans by now and must've seen how your baby is growing.. Dont worry. Your baby will be healthy.

I'm 33 weeks too and I know you have enough aches and pains to get stressed about anything else now.

    Relax and take good rest.

    hi preethi,
    thanks a bunch for replying.
I have posted my thread as soon as I returned from shopping where i found my fault.I was in so unsettled and upset mood.
I think my post is not clear.
I am supposed to take 1 multivitamin tablet and a liquid gel tablet(DHA one)daily with a meal.
I have missed the multivitamin tablet which has iron, folic acid, calcium etc(all essential vitamins)for 2-3 months.I have started with DHA tablet alone initially.During this time I completely ignored the multivitamin tablet i am supposed to take.
I heard that we can take prenatals even before getting pregnant. If that's so I did not even do it during the required pregnancy period.I am so confused with this situation now.Today I had my visit to OB.I explained to her my mistake and showed all the vitamin boxes. She did not comment about its effect.I have asked her to take my ultrasound scan. She said it will be in my 37th week.I am praying for my baby's good health.
You are right.I have many aches and pains already. I have my plate full with too many unknown things to be handled as I am first time pregnant.

    Surekha,

Yes.. You werent clear in your first post.. It said took multi vitamin and not the other bottle.. :bonk

Anyways, if you have taken the folic acid after your first trimester too, it is alright. Dont worry. There are many people who dont even realise they are pregnant till 3 months or so and go about having healthy babies. :)

So, dont worry too much.. If there was an issue, your doctor would have told you after the scans.. Since you are already 33 weeks and would have gone through all the milestone scans.. Guess tere is no issue to worry about.

Relax and keep your faith going. Pray well and think positive about an easy labour with a healthy baby ! :)

    Take care.
