Dear Farheen Firstly welcome to Melbourne! Moving in with a job is really good. You will be here when winter sets in, so please be aware that it will be cold. But since you have lived in Frankfurt and places like that already, it should not be totally new to you. You budget per month on rental should easily be able to fetch you a decent sized home for all of you. Since you have your budget fixed already, then you should be able to search for houses in that range. You can specify your maximum budget and the website should give you a list of available apartments/units/houses in that price range. Generally people tend to look closer to the city and Eastern/South-Eastern suburbs. Most of the Indian population is sorta concentrated around that area. If you have not tried that option of Search, then please do. With regards to schools for kids, I hope other members can help you out with information. There are lots of Indian stores available these days everywhere and so you will not have any problem looking for indian cooking items. Things are expensive but certainly affordable by all means. Good luck!
knot2share hello knot2share.how are you.how do i address you.sorry for replying late , just got busy over the weekend and also had a tea party at my place for my Indian friends here. firstly, thanks a lot for giving me all the information .you know my husband is more happy than me on knowing that i have got a reply for my queries.will post few more queries to clear my doubt.till then take care.bye:wave
Hope your tea party went well. You may address me as Knot2share or K2S like many do here. It does not worry me and you need not hesitate either. Go through some of the threads on this ANZAC forum. You may find some of the answers already in there - just a thought. Catch you later.
Hello Farheen, You have made a wise choice in comming to Melb. Our city is a melting pot of many cultures. For God;s sake do not go by what people say about Oz. Trust me, you will be more at home here that any other place in the world. As for your queries on housing etc, I have given the necessary info in this forum. Pls go through the forum & you will find your answers. You are from Mumbai so from one Mumbaikar to another, "Bhetuya lavkar." Thanks for your kind words of appreciation. That is what IL endeavours to do. Help each other. As for your queries, do not be ashamed to ask. It is better to ask rather than make mistakes. All new migrants undergo this. I did too. Soon a day will come, you will telling another new migrant how life is in Melb. So, see you soon. All the best for your plans. Regards, Corallux
Re: hi corallux and knot2share hello corallux and knot2share.Thank you so much for a warm welcome on this blog and giving me advice.Hopefully next week will be the final meeting with the concerned company, keeping my fingers crossed that the result comes out positive. Can you tell me how much one should expect weekly grocery expense would be.I want to know if house lizards crawl in the houses there because lizards are very common here in Singapore.People say that here it is very common due to the tropical climate and Singapore being an island even if your house is the cleanest in the whole world.I know it all sounds yucky but i was too scared at first.Sorry for asking such a question but i wanted to know. :hide: Bhetuya Lavkar
Hello Farheen It might sound strange to you but I really have not kept a keen eye on weekly grocery bills. But thats just me. At the moment we are 4 adults in our house and our weekly grocery expenses come to about $120 give or take. There are no lizards here in Melbourne that crawl on the walls like back home in India. The weather is not tropical in Melbourne. But if you were to go up to Queensland, there might be.......again I don't remember noticing any. Have you Corrallux?? ...........over to you Corrallux. Fingers crossed for you Farheen.
Dear K2S & Farheen, It depends on where you shop. Aldi, IGI & certain areas of Coles are cheap. (As for prices, avg coles price p/m comes to around $100-$120) K2S, I agree, reptiles thrive mostly in tropical climates. Farheen, if you want lizards, then Qld or NT is the place to be. Yes, some houses have cockroaches & mice here. But lizards? No. Hope to see you soon, Have a good one ladies, Corallux
Re: hi corrallux and K2S hello ladies thank you so much on informing that there are no house lizards there, because i am damn scared of them.Hey, but what about the mice and cockroaches are they all over Melbourne or certain parts. Please let me know so that i look out for a house in a place which is mice and cockroach free.:hide: Though i am not really scared of cockroaches but still to think about it ; it definitely has an unsighted appearance and mices ,i guess no one wants them to intrude your house.I wanted to know how are Jolimont and Richmond. Are they too far from CBD.Also are these areas good for families with children.Hope these areas are mice and cockroach free. Its 10:30 am here now my kids are on a 15 days vaccation before their new accademic year starts on 5th april and now they are up from their sleep so back to my routine work. Will catch up with you ladies latter.take care.bye
Re: hi corrallux and K2S Farheen dear There are big lizards here called Crocodiles!!!!!! And a place free of mice and cockroach - You will need to live in a bubble dear to be free of everything..........ha...ha!!
