    Hello Ladies

Sesame seeds are tiny, flat oval seeds found in different colors, yellow, black and red are little crunchy with a nutty taste.

Sesame seeds rich in calcium, copper, iron, vitamin E, magnesium, zinc, proteins, vitamin B1 and phosphorous, benefit the kidneys, spleen, liver, stomach etc.

Copper in sesame helps reduce some of the pain and swelling of rheumatoid arthritis.

Magnesium in the sesame helps prevent the airway spasm in asthma, lowers high blood pressure, prevents the trigeminal blood vessel spasm, restores the normal sleep patterns in women during menopause.

Calcium in the sesame helps to protect colon cells from cancer causing chemicals, helps to prevent bone loss, helps to prevent migraine headaches, reduces PMS symptoms in women.

Zinc rich sesame helps increase the bone mineral density, especially for post menopausal women.

Phytosterol in sesame helps reduce blood levels of cholesterol, enhance the immune system to fight infections.

Sesame seed rich in Vitamin E help strengthen the heart and the nervous system.

Sesame oil applied externally to remove wrinkles and other skin diseases.

Half cup of sesame seeds contain 3 times more calcium then half cup of milk.

Sesame is believed to remove intestinal worms.

Try to incorporate sesame in your daily diet in any form to get all the benefits. Add a spoonful sesame in every chutney, masala pastes, sweets, salads, snack items, halva etc.

Sesame leaves aromatic as herbs are used as staple green vegetable in some East Asian countries.

I love your siggie and the information on sesame. Thankyou for sharing it here.
I use Sesame in ways I know of - in baking, in making tahini, and sometimes as a tadka. Would appreciate it if you let me know how I can cook it without it getting bitter. I use this mainly for my son who had milk allergies. TIA.

    dear tikka

select good quality black or white sesame.. the black variety is the best as far as nutrients are concerned.
soak for a few minutes say about five minutes will do...drain water and let it dry ....roast till it splutters...it will turn bitter if you roast it further. add to whatever dish you are making...also it can turn bitter if you grind very fine...if you coarse grind it ....it tastes wonderful..

quite a long time back we had a patient's son who had milk allergies too...they soaked sesame in water overnight...washed and ground in mixie strained to take the sesame milk dilute it two times depending upon how old the baby is....cook on low fire or in a pan kept inside a pan of boiling water...no sugar added...

    other dishes are
til milagai podi that goes with dosa and idli
    til laddu's made with jaggery
it can be used in sabji's both the north indian and southindian varieties
in curries esp carrot ...it is usually added at the end...this one is dry roasted as before and added.

    Hi,

    Thanks for the information..
Let me add one more point...
Use sesame seeds with the skin... If skin is removed, we cannot get the benefits...
