    Hello all,

My baby (2 weeks) seems to be having some swallowing issues. Whenever he is hungry he is too eager to suck the EBM from bottle in a very fast pace and later finds it difficult to swallow and spits up half of the milk. I tried reducing the fast sucking by tilting the bottle and reducing the entry of milk into this mouth but this doesn't seem to help. Btw, it doesn't happen during every feed but only 40% of feeds. Some of feeds he takes bottle quite well.

I am not sure if DS being a premie (35 weeker) makes him difficult to swallow. Let me know how to deal with this. Any inputs are welcome.

    Regards,
    Malar

Malar, your baby seems to be swallowing a lot more air when he is feeding. You may have to burp him eveyr 15 ml or half an ounce and space out his feeding. I remember you posting in your other thread that you were having issues with one of your twin. Is this him?
Also use an anti-colic bottle like this with newborn nipples. That way you will lessen the amount of air that goes in and help the child suckle as he would at breast. Hope the poor darling takes his feeds well soon enough. Hugs.

I second tikka on this- even my baby used to swallow with too much force while hungry and half the milk would be spilling outside his mouth or he'd just spit up later on. Try to get nipples with very very slow flow for now... And like tikka said he may be swallowing lots of air too... If you have access to Dr Brown's bottles, I'd suggest buying them. It's reduced my son's spits quite a bit.

I also face the same problem with my baby especially when i feed him in bottle. so i started burping him after every ounce. i also changed the nipples.
