Why this difference?

Dear Ilites,

This question though a common and hugely discussed, raised in me a few days back.

We have been conducting Medical Camps on behalf of "Alumni" of our university and almost an year is complete now adopting a village near Padppai (Beyond Tambaram, Chennai).

We have taken up around 10 to 15 families belonging to "Irula" tribes. Few families were provided small houses by the Tamilnadu Government and few live in their own huts.

Their traditional profession is used to be catching snakes earlier. They were called for catching snakes in nearby households, factories and public places. But in today's modern world their profession is diminishing and they had to rear goats and hens for their livelihood. They take the goats to a nearby forest for grazing and on their way home they cut wood for their household and selling.

We adopted these tribal families mainly for their health issues. Most of the ladies here get married at a very young age and give birth to 3 or 4 children before they cross 25 years of age. When you compare the children with the children brought up in urban areas they seem to be totally malnourished. It was quiet difficult for us to identify their age.

As a first step of improving their life style we taught them how to be clean and hygienic as a person. Applying oil and combing their hair was a difficult task for us as they considered themselves to be untouchables. We made them understand that there is nothing like untouchability if they can present themselves neat and elegant. We taught them how bathing is important and also taught them to wear chappals and its necessity.

They do grasp few things very fast and the rest I think we need to equip ourselves to make them understand.

They are too human beings like us. I could clearly study in them the same emotions, love, care that we have. Then why this difference in society against these kind of people? Is it due to their life style or profession or money or cast or complexion?

Please let us not bring out all the social reasons here like they are untouchables, they are not clean, they do not have money, they are uneducated etc.

All these differences are due to only one feeling it is nothing but the "I" feeling. We think - I am the best, I am clean, I am wealthier, I am educated and so many I's.

Is there is any use in talking in front of a mass or forums siting all these social reasons? Instead there should be a revolution in each one of us to cut this "I" feeling be it a politician, a business man, artists and human beings like us.

This revolution does not attract crowd, controversies, media glare. This will silently put everything in place.

Will we ever realize this? I am placing a very difficult task for all of us here. Can anyone of us remain for a day without this "I" feeling? If we can the whole world can.

If not - Why this difference? - the question mark continues...

Thanks for coming in. Your DIL is a darling for all those who are really in need of help. Great work. Many singles make a mass. Only when we get deep into the thought we will be able to understand cutting "I" feeling and its miracle. I do nothing here, it is all God's plan.

Thanks for sharing your views here. "I" factor is the ULAGAMAHA CULPRIT. Very difficult to eliminate it from us.
