    Dear Ilites,

Am new to this section. Thought of just post my first experience after I tonsured my head in February 2010. I had a vow to Lord Venkat, Thirupathi.

I had decided that in July 2009 when my husband met with a major accident in Pondicherry when he was driving his car... I was in Chennai at that time and when I heard that news, I could not control myself....I left my two daughters at my mom's place, took my sister to accompany me and travelled to Pondy....

Thank God....I had consoled myself when I saw our car after the incident. He was saved with only minor injuries and our car was fully crushed.....So, this was the background for my head-shave...

My husband and daughters too were not too supportive for my headshave, but I managed to convince them..they took lots of photos on the previous night of our journey - me posing with my hair exclusively..!!

The next day morning we reached tirupathi and when we were about to go for the tonsure, I felt a little afraid as this is my first experience. Understanding my feelings, my husband has also done it just to give me a moral support....When the head shave is done for me, my daughters started crying looking at me....They were asking me..."Mom, why have to taken such a decision"....

Well, next day I had to anyway go to my office, which is an MNC. That day morning i covered my head with a long scarf and went as usual...Though I was little frightened about people's comment ....I had no choice.

When I entered my office, my colleagues started buzzing me with different questions.....
    " madam, any head injuries"
" madam, have you changed to islam?"
"Madam, is this a new style"

From that day onwards, till now my colleagues started greeting me as "Salamale gum" and started calling me "Bin Lady"....:)

Hoping to unviel my scarf by June mid atleast:rotfl:rotfl:rotfl

    Cheers,
    Sujatha Hari

    dear friend,

that is great. You did that for your husband. Its okay. God has saved your husband from a major accident. Dear but in tamil nadu it is not accepted for married ladies to tonsure their hair. When we all went to Pazhani, my hus and two sons gave their hair to lord muruga. Next working day when my hus went to office with a cap, his boss who was from Kerala, called him and told, " Do you know why you are giving your hair to god. Its to show that you gave up all your egos( Garvam or Ahangaram ). So you should be in a state of mind not to mind others if they tease you. So remove the hat and face them". My hus did the same.

    Oh Ganga ma...

Is it so...I didn't know that...... How true we bend before god to give away our hair just to tell him that I am surrended and my ego is gone....

Thanks for your reply and will try to unviel my scarf at the earliest...

    Dear Suja,

That's a very nice write up friend. As i know your love and affection towards your DH, i can understand your feelings at the time of the accident. You need real courage to face your office people with the shaved head.

Let me pray to Lord Venkat for the fast growth of your hair.

    Dear Ganga,

That's a new information. thanks for sharing it to us.

    Hi suhania,

i really admire your confidence dear..Really, it takes a woman, and a working woman at that a lot of courage to go with her head tonsured.
it also shows that you are a person who keeps her word... two lovely traits i see in you..Great, keep it up:thumbsup

wishing you and your family happy times always :).

    Dear Suhania

You have done a great thing. Lord Venkateswara will always bless you and give your family good health. As Ganga said usually married ladies dont do that. As Mindi has mentioned it requires lot of courage to do that . Being a working woman also you did that. That shows the love you have foryour husband. I pray God that your hair should grow fast.

    love
    viji

Hats off to you my dear Suhaniya! I love my husband more than my life and will sacrifice anything for him but what you have done is 'very special' because of your spontaneity and your immense faith In God. In your situation probably I would have thought of donating my blood all through my life,or giving away everything for charity or even offered my life to God to save his life at the most. But you sacrificed your 'EGO' which is much more valuable than any or all of these things.
