Usually they say after 40 or 50 our life is a bonus. For women after menopause all the problems start. Some have no problems and are able to lead a healthy life.

I always think I am young after growing old also. But health conditions now a days makes me think I am getting old. I am pulling on my life with will power. Usually after sixty you become very emotional and for small things get hurt. When I had my hip bone fracture in June 1991 immediately after my menopause I did not get worried, faced it with will power. After taking bed rest for two months and after two operations started going to office with stick on hand. Earlier I used to go by train and started going by Contract Bus. I needed someone's help to get into the bus and also while getting down. The friends in the bus were very co operative and one friend used to come with me and take care of me while crossing the road and reach me till office and then go to her office.

Till I was working I was bold and used to face anything with a smile on my face. Now also I face everything with smile and leave everything to God to take care , who is always beside me and guiding me. But still there are times when I feel very low , then that time I just let out my feelings by posting here and with eeryone's encouragement carry on my activities. The freshness which I have in the morning becomes less by evening.

Now my granddaughters are there who keep me lively but I feel they should have come early to me , when I would have had more strength to carry them and enjoy with them. I just pray to God to give me more strength and good health in the remaining part of life.

My advise to the youngs ladies is take care of your health when you are young , take medicines properly when you are pregnant, take proper rest after delivery . All this counts as you grow old especially after menopause lot of problems will be there .

Thanks for the elderly advise for this sweet 16+ young girl. Gracefully welcoming the aging action granted form above.

Accepting your annotates. Though we feel young at heart, its our age often reminds us of our aging limitations.

    Dear Viji,

Well said. Though our age and body refuse to work, we should not bother about anything, anybody. we should do our daytoday work as it is. Only nearing or afer 50, we have to think ,show and act that we are not old. nice thread viji.

    Hi Guys,
Just love this forum for I can find kindred spirits here with similar thoughts.

Why, we can stay young if we can keep ourselves in good health!! Health I feel, is the only limiting factor . Age is only a number.

I normally go for a walk in the park in the evenings. There come four elderly gentlemen. In age they must be closer to 80. They come and sit down on a park bench . Probably their physical condition does not allow them to excercise much, but they seem such good friends and seem to be having great fun in each other's company.

It is so heartening to see them. They have lots to talk about and discuss and seem to understand each other so well. Its a great advantage to have same age group friends.
    God bless all.

    Dear Viji,
Aiways you are ready to come up with nice and useful topic. You are absolutely correct.
Time marches on, and the march of time alters every part of the human body. Few of these changes are welcome, but most can be slowed down, minimized, or compensated for. There is no fountain of youth, but the combination of good health habits, good medical care, good genes, and a little good luck can keep most of us bubbling along to ages that were unimaginable to previous generations.People are good medicine: Strong social ties have been associated with lower blood pressure and longer life expectancies. Isolation appears to increase the risk of heart attacks. So interacting in IL will always keep you young and energetic.

    Dear Viji,

There is a saying that you are only as old or as young as you think...

I can confidently say that as the years advance, I don't feel old at all... in the beginning, one calls us by our first name, slowly this becomes Didi, then Aunty (reminds me of 'Aunty mat kaho naa!' from the sitcom 'Hum Paanch'), then sometimes even Paati!!! But when my young friends still call me by my name, that makes my day!

One way to keep our bones from creaking is to take lots of exercise, practise yoga, go for walks etc,... the more agile we are, the better for our morale! And of course, how can one feel one's age when we have a treasure-house here in IL? Interacting wih all the young ones like Yashikushi/Saroj and others does keep us young at heart, illayaa?

As always, an interesting post fro you, Viji my friend,

    Jai Bhavani Maa!

    Love,
    Padma

    Hi Aunty

Once again a very practical topic started by you. Sure as years roll on, age goes +. One has to take proper medical care. That alone is not enough. Here I am forced to compare my MIL with other senior ladies here. She used to just have her food after daily routine, have medicines, watch TV and towards the end of her life, keep on repeating old family stories and politics which was a bit unpleasant for us. Once or twice we can hear but listening to repeated stories is a bore. But oldies like her who may now be in IL would definitely be placed better. They have good interaction and sharing with others. So though body may be old, by trying to keep oneself young at heart, the intensity of pain or other ailments will reduce because mind is always engaged.

Those who may not be adept at using computers can read good magazines, or listen to good programs of interest on TV and fight this issue na?

My personal observation about the elderly is that they can live longer and healthier if they are in the company of those who genuinely love them and care for them

The feeling of loneliness and redundancy is a killer.
To be busy with their own hobbies or activities is good to an extent, but what they really need is company of those who love them. They need to be told how important they are to the family. This is where the Indian family system is well placed to provide them with emotional security.

    Dear Saroj

Yesterday I typed the reply to your fb but by the time I tried to post the net went off yesterday night. Then the net was also very slow.

I agree with whatever you have written. I am always young at heart and have many young friends than the older ones. So I never feel I am old . But my body does not listen to my heart. But still due to my will power I carry on and also the love I get from my family and from IL gives me moral strenght and I am able to carry on. In that way I am lucky that wherever I go I get love.

You will be always young how much you grow old because you have talent and you can keep yourself busy in your hobbies. Wherever you are you will be spreading kushi. I pray to God to give you lot of strenght and always keep you young.

    love
    viji
