    My second son is living in Porur and my DIL is also a working woman. My grand kid is 4 1/2 years old. Everybody has to leave the house before 8 o clock in the morning. Before that they have to cook brakfast and lunch, making dubbas for all the three, make the child ready for school etc. Apart from this they have to see cloth washing, house cleaning and vessel cleaning also.

    Availability of housemaids and cooks in this area is very difficult. Eventhough it is an apartment, the available few house maids too are very costly not fit for their timings. My children havent found neither cook nor servant to do other works. Today morning the bell rang and there stood two ladies. The first one is the watchman's wife and she brought the other one. When I opened the door my hus was sitting in the living room. The two ladies were standing in the front room for my DIL to come and talk with them. While my DIL started asking from where they are coming, the new lady just peeped into the living room and also looked at me and asked my DIL, who are they?. She said they are my in laws. Then she asked whether we are permanantly here. My DIl replied that we are actually in kerala. Then the lady asked by looking at my face, when are you going. Before I replied, my DIL got irritated and told them that both the parents will come and go now and then and If they are still interested she can talk with them. Finally anyhow the timings asusual were not fiited so they went back. My husband who was watching all this without uttering a word passed this comment, " To be with the children in ones old age . it is not only that the children should be a caring ones, but also the servants". We all had a good laugh.

    Very true one. Now here in Chennai, the demands of the servants are exuberant.Their demands are unlimited not only depending on the number of members but also the size and number of rooms.
    Years before when I visited my aunt's house, my aunt requested me to wash my clothes and plates since her servant maid would do all these for the guest!!! I told my aunt " in that case ask her to get out". My aunt replied "I can live without guests but not without a servant maid like her!!!"Kooli miga ketpar koduththathellam thaan marappaar" This is the situation.

    Yes, nowadays servants are in high demand. They enjoy spreading gossips about us also. :rant. We should be lucky enough to get good servants.

    Thats truly hilarious.....To wait for servant's approval also for staying in son's house.
    I remember one of my friends telling me she often have the doubt from her servant's behaviour that "Who is actually the servant".Her maid often complain about her settings in kitchen. Every day she will tell somebodys's name requesting her to be their maid. She would end always by expressing her sympathy towards my friend and that to be the only reason for her staying....
    Its true the world has changed.....

    Yes, very true..
    I have to give advance money to my maid servant..i dont give...she will bunk next day...
    She will see how many rooms in my room & cleaning vessels in the bath room...what to do...if some guests will come, she will also ask some extra money..

    Hi Ganges!

    Very truly said abt the demanding servants. We have to adjust to them and not vice versa. My servant though is a nice lady, on one occasion she raised her voice to such an extent, i did not speak to her after that, though she was very regular for work

    Now probably she realised her mistake and has started being normal with me - but I did not question her behaviour. Nor do I eeshify with her. Just get the work done and be done with her. But one thing I must appreciate she is very regular and never takes leave.

    If u get a good servant for ur DIL u must really thank God becos such is the pathetic situation of working females.

    True. The world has changed. If one is not bothering about society and status, one can choose this job. Hardly two hours a house and three thousand plus for that for cooking.

    Nice name you are having. Thanks for the FB. I heard from one of my friends that the servants will bunk the very next day of any functions and festivals for there will more left over works to do. They are the queens in every bodys house.
