    Ladies,

It was the period I was leaking milk but now am having reduced supply.
Am on antibiotics for 2weeks and doc old its very safe while bf ing so I dont think that is the main cause..

Since Nov am pumping milk and in Jan I found out that milk is reducing like... Starting from feb I was in tension and reduction was too much and now on medication it is reducing a lot..

Intial days I was able to pump for 15 feedings in a day but now it reduced to 4 feedings a day..

Am drinking lot of fluids, taking garlic.. Is this tension & medication the main reason? Or will milk reduce at a certain point of time?

I have seen ladies getting periods in their 3rd month itself and also having low supply.. But for me no period yet but reduced supply.. I dont want leaking supply for me but atleast 8 feedings milk is fine for me.. for 1 feeding I give my son 80-85mls

My supply also started to go down after a couple of months. Now it's back to normal and I'm back to work too. here are a few things that helped me:

    1. Are you breastfeeeding your baby directly? Try to feed him directly atleast 3-4 times if you're working (at nights/evenings after you're back from work/ morning before going to work). That helps in increasing your supply quite a bit as the sucking action stimulates milk production. Atleast worked for me.

    2. Do you have a regular pumping schedule? skipping pumping sessions brings down the supply. You need to empty your breasts frequently
Also do you have a double sided electric pump? That's very important to efficiently drain the breasts if you are into pumping than feeding directly.
Personally I use Medela freestyle and it's been working fabulously for the past 4 months. It's very small and portable and has an inbuilt rechargeable battery, so you don't need to haul around the AC adapter or batteries. Also it's very easy to clean. I've had no issues with the suction either.

    3. Soak fenugreek seeds in boiled water over night and drink the water next morning. Also try oatmeal (quaker oats). These really helped in boosting supply.

    4. Drink lots of water. I felt that when I forgot to drink as much water and was dehydrated, it reduced my supply. If you're a big coffee drinker, try to cut down as caffeine could possibly cause dehydration too.

    5. try to stress out less...... work can cause stress, so need to be careful about that.

    All the best

    Tej,

    Thanks for reply.
Am pumping as well as bf ing my LO(1-2 times). The main problem for not bf ing is that I dont know how much my LO drinks and I was asked to give him 80-85ml for each feed.
I will try soaking feenugreek tip.
Also, I think I skipped pumping last month couple of times and now am trying to pump often.
Let me try if I will get my supply back.

I undertand your concern. My baby was born underweight (5.5 lbs) and I was a bit worried about directly feeding as he needed to gain weight. So I would pump after feeding and offer him the expressed milk in a bottle if he was still hungry. In general, babies will not let you go until their hunger has been satisfied
So I suggest you offer him milk directly before you feed the 80 mls. After he's had some milk from you, give him the bottle. So you get the needed stimulation and he feeds to satiety.:thumbsup

Try fenugreek tablets available in Whole foods (after consulting your doc). I used to take 6 tabs a day 3 times for the first 3 months. It had worked for me. Also include methi in your diet if possible twice a week. As the previous poster said, feeding to baby directly makes a lot of difference. Also stress acts anti in nursing times. So, you dont have a choice now. Be happy :)

    Hi Anitha,
My Gynae suggested lactare tablets its ayurvedic and so far milk production is better than earlier, also iam taking lots of leafy green vegetables specially dill(in kannada sabbasike) and shatavari powder in milk but more important is frequently nursing the baby.
