    Hello to all

It is a known fact that pesticides are used in farming fruits and vegetables. Pesticides are the chemicals used to control or kill insects, pests and fungi.

Invariably the fruits and vegetables we buy contain the pesticide residue. The residue level varies from place to place, but still exists.

Eating the fruits and vegetables with the pesticide residue in the long run may cause chronic health disorders. These symptoms include diarrhea , vomiting, dizziness, breathing problems or in some cases nervous disorders.

The best we can do to reduce the residue is to -

    1. Wash the fruits and vegetables thoroughly under the running water.

    2. Add lime to a bowl of water and wash.

    3. Add salt to a bowl of water and wash.

    4. Add vinegar to the water and wash.

    5. Peel the vegetables to further reduce the toxin levels.

    6. Some suggest to blanch the vegetables, which is not a good advise. It washes nutrients away.

    7. Eat a variety of fruits and vegetables.

Choose the fruits and vegetables wisely.

Fruits and vegetables with high residues are:

    apples

    peaches

    spinach

    potato

    strawberries

    bell peppers

    cherries

    cucumbers

    pears

    carrots

    grapes etc..

Fruits and vegetables with low residues are:

    corn

    bananas

    onions

    sweet potato

    sweet peas

    papaya

    kiwi

    pineapple

    broccoli

    water melon

    cauliflower

    cabbage etc.

Go for the organic fruits and vegetables whenever possible, for the sake of your family and environment. Buy certified organic fruits and vegetables.

    Believe in health is wealth.

    hi 4mango,
even i was worried about the fertliizer they use on our vegetables and fruits...

i just do one thing, wash them in a big container for 2 -3 times and after the last wash keep them soaked in water for 30 minutes..

i dont know if nutrients get lost by keeping raw vegetables for long..but i prefer to this much for family sake..

    Hi hemadurga

Thanks for reading my thread. Your method of washing the vegetables in water for 2 - 3 times is good. By simply soaking the vegetables in water for 30 minutes, nutrients are not lost. It is even better if you add salt to the water. Blanching make the vegetables loose the nutrients.
