    Dear Sathya

A good one. Its surprising how the mother forgot her child's name. Must be because she just got up from her sleep

    Oh So sad!!

The pet name got so well established that the original name was forgotten (but this is a remote possibility).

A different post. Calling by any name is OK but children / students / elders (whatever situation they are in) have to be careful while giving data / filling up forms becos these days even when everything is perfect some things take infinite time to get done)!!!!!!!!!

    Dear Sathya,
On reading the title I thought it is an emotional story
between mother and son. Oh dear! I found just the opposite. Mom forgetting her own son's real name. But when we are accustomed with the pet names we over look the real name. This happened in my cousin's case. When he was young we used to call him " Kuduvi"So when one of his friends called him over the phone " Is Thyagesan there"? ( his real name) I replied " there is no one by that name"> Due to this my cousin was not able to go to the movie. The scolds I got from him is another story!!!
    with love

    Dear Sathya

I could not help smiling reading it, but how unfortunate isn't it? Actually when I started reading your post, I thought dolly was going to be a pet name for a girl. Did not expect it for a boy. After reading Sriniketan's post I too feel powerful like the Devis and Devas!!

That was funny Sathya....But this happens.Eventhough exactly not like this my DF would always think twice before any of my friends call for me by my official name.

    Hi
LOL ! That mother must have felt so embarrassed after such a :bonksituation !
It may seem strange, but it does happen. Especially in families that have the custom of having a "Given name" ( usually a Kula Devata's or a Granparent's) and an "official Name" ( a shorter, more modern name). Its only the latter that is ever used in daily life and the former pops up only in a Lagnapatrika ( wedding invite).
