Yeah..do you think that only Gods and Goddesses have Sahasranamams?(1000 names) We do too! :thumbsup
Sahasranamams are the praises of the Almighty..but ours mighty be the combination of good and not so good names of/for us..:biglaugh
We get a minimum of 3 names while we are named for the first time.:)

Then some 'pet names' follow us throughout our lifetime through our parents, siblings, relatives, neighbours, friends, our better half, our children and of course, from our in-laws..:hide:
We get different names depending upon the situations we are in, just like, "good mom, mean mom". :biggrin2:
Sometimes we are named because of our behaviours too, like 'angry mom' etc. :rant

Once the social networking came into effect, our names multiplied under the disguise of screen ids. :hiya
I hope you all agree with me that we have 1000 names, which cannot be compiled of course..

    Hi !
LOL ! At least in this one aspect we share some of god's Divinity, eh ?:rotfl

School days is the period we get tagged with more than enough sahasranamas ! Remember all those "gangs" with each side disfiguring the names of the girls of the enemy-gang with prefixes and suffixes that were rude, silly and downright cruel ! And all those Names we attached to the poor teachers ! Tubby-Cat, Blade-bama, Hydrogen-Sulphide are some i remember !

    :)

    Dear Bhargavi

You are right, we all have so many names. Usually Kerala people call by pet names only. My husband calls my elder daughter Kutta, son ammu and younger daughter Kunju, and usually for everyone he calls kondai whether they are kids or grown up. I also have somany names Viji, Vijaya, Vijay, Lakshmi, Jaya etc

Since my husband'sname is shortened to PP Iyer , everyone calls him PP . Then they have kept ifferent names according to their building, colour etc. like Sandhya Mani, Greenvalley Mani, Meesai Mani. I will get back when I remember the other names.

When I married a bengali I came to know the people can actually have several different names :bonk most common being sona/ mona / khoka ( small boy)/ mau ( softy)/ munna etc ... bengalis never call their family members by their"good" name always by the pet name and so a person has a different pet name given by parents/ grandparents one each one either side and that also may be 2-3nos/ then a pet name by which the siblings have to call you.... yes its true as in namesake!!:crazy

So for me,many years after I got married i realised that i don't know so many of my in-laws side relatives actual names.. only pet names...infact to date i don't know the "good"name of several of our family friends and their kids!!!
For my son my name changes from "monster mom" to the "best-est mom" depending on the liberties I allow him to take!!
Yes.. we can definately can compete with devis and devas in this aspect!!!

WEll on names, if Sri Niketan were to marry a guy called Devi shanker, their daughter would be named Sirdevi ?:biglaugh

And if Kamal were to marry Lata, the sone would be named Kala, meaning black.:bonk

:rotflVery true, Lakshmi. Do you know one thing, i heard long time back that we are ones who gave Him his form..as he is formless.
So He is also sharing our physical form.:)

Rightly said. During school and college days...how many 'namams' we give and receive..it is part of those days, isn't it! You are making me go down the memory lane..

    Viji,
Nice to know about your many names and also that of your family's.
True, we also name people to identify them from where they live..
When reading about meesai Mani..I was thinking about Mithila ma'am's .."Karuppu Balu..paruppu thogaiyal' thread...where to differentiate the names if our friends have the same name.

    Hi Sriniketan,

I wonder how you get novel ideas to start a thread.
I remember one joke - A hubby and wife went to a temple.
They wanted to do archana. So the priest asked that on whose
name I have to do archana. The hubby told archana is over
for me at home:crazy So please you do archana on wife`s name:bonk
