    Hello all,

I love love LOVE classical dance esp Bharatnatyam. I am in my late twenties but I have made myself a promise that in my lifetime, I will learn atleast one recital completely. When is too late to start? I do not have much prior experience performing. Just a couple of years when I was a child and I dont even remember what I was taught!:bonk

    Sunflower,

You have raised a question which is in my mind since so many months now. I love Bharatnatyam too...infact I have to say I love dancing. I am so much embarrassed to even find out if they take me as a student because all I see here in classes are kids who are like 5 years old as students.:hide:

Well I am already too late that I know.... because I have crossed my 30s and I don't know the ABC of Bharatnatyam. I just want to learn tha's all not to perform or anything. I still feel in the corner of my heart that I should just muster up the courage to ask the teacher if she will take me as her student. If she says yes that's super but if not its still fine...I will think that atleast I have tried. You will never know if you don't try. I feel that you should go for it especially since you probably already know the basics.

Learning knows no age limit. I am sure there are classes held somewhere nearby where you live and you can atleast inquire whether they will take you on as a student. Go for it! :thumbsup

    Good Luck!

    Hi Jaya and Sunflower.

At least u both r younger to me. Next yr I will touch Golden B'day. I too started feeling too late when i realised the passion for dance - any form but splly bharatnatyam. But I always used to think one has to be very pretty and fair to be a classical dancer. My thoughts are disproved when i see so many budding artistes.

Like this there are so many passions - I sometimes feel i will come back again as a girl and try to achieve such petty unfulfilled desires.

Sunflower i think it should not be late. Somehow find out and learn. Then u will definitely feel for it later.

    Hi sunflower,
Age is no bar for learning anything if you do have the passion for that thing. Your dedication and involvement will make you to learn the things very quickly and you can establish your self as a dancer. I did have that passion and took part in all the dance program mes in my school and college days but I have not learnt Bharatha natyam. Still, that feeling is there inside my heart. So take steps to learn that great art and shine!!! I am getting satisfied by dancing in our house and apartment functions:)
    with love

Wow pammi. gr8 to know that passify ur passion by dancing in ur house and apts functions even though u r a patti. I love such females who keep up their spirits come what may.

I am a mooli padagi - i think my mouth is shut only when i sleep / when am in office or on the road. rest of the time i keep humming. my hubby teases me ungamma unnai paadinde peththalaa nu. My grocery shopkeeper once commented uncle chinna kuyil chitravoda porapola nu.

I dont bother. though am not professional, music is my passion.

    Hello,

So nice to read all your replies and it has only motivated me further. Age is but in the mind isn't it?:thumbsup As of now my toddler is my only audience and sometimes I subject DH to the torture too:rotfl. But my steps have become repetitive and when I try to dance as per dance videos of any famous artist, I end up gaping at how well they dance rather than learn:bonk

Awesome!! It is very commendable that you have not learned the dance form formally but still dance. Which means you should dance well considering you have been doing it for many years now!

Hi Sunflower/Jaya and all the others,

Age is no bar for acquiring knowledge. Any art form requires only dedication and passion and love for the art. Who cares as long as you enjoy yourself and have those moment of happiness which you will always cherish. In my dance class, many mothers would come to drop their children off and slowly get motivated themselves to learn. Lucky for them my Guru is very very sweet and is one of those who encourages no matter what the age and I am fortunate to having taught a few ladies myself.

So all it needs is that first step and then you will soon be saying the rest is history! :thumbsup I don't think one is ever too old when it comes to realizing your dreams!!!

I say go for it girls for all girls wanna have some fun:)

    Cheers,
    Puri

    Hello Puribala,

Thanks for the words of encouragement. The irony of all this is that when my mom used to wake me up early to send me to classes, I used to say :spin. Now tables have turned and its me who is itching to join a dance class! :rotfl
