Breastfeeding after C-section- difficulties and solution

dear bhucat, am very happy that things worked out for u ... i absoluted get disgusted to see how docs and nurses here absolutely ignore the plight of a new mom, for them breastfeeding should come naturally, what is there to teach? which is so untrue.

your post brought back the not so past memories when i was struggling to feed my LO. i had a c section too, but my doc was godsent! its rare to see the kind of support she gave me, atleast here. 2 hours after surgery, she informed the nurse in recovery room, to keep the baby on my chest for few mins every 2 hours...
when we shifted to my room, she wld come twice to chk on whether my milk had come in, and to help me help her latch on... it was a struggle and i was almost on the verge of giving up and going for the tin lying there,, but she kept motivating me, that milk will come and please let the baby such every hour... things will ease...
this happened for 4 days, when my nipples were ripped and bleeding, but she kept on pushing me to not give up... eventually when we came home, milk did come in, and we both mom daughter learnt how to get the feeding going...
i am so thankful to my doc, and thankful to all those consultants who help moms with feeding issues.
the joy of breastfeeding is needless to say, the deepest i hv ever felt

 

Bhucat, I dd not have a c-section, but a premature child who had not done well the first few days. The hospital intended well, but did not do much to help establish breastfeeding - one health professional actually screamed at me for trying to read a book on how bf-ing works when I was struggling with it. DS had jaundice and was fed formula and was on bfs... he would have continued to be formula fed, I guess given how difficult it was to bf him, had it not been his allergies. The next three months was such a struggle for us to get him exclusively on the breast. So, I can feel your pain. There was no lactation consultant at that point in Chennai, so I had to read all the information that is out there to understand what the problem with us was and sort it out.
Great there are good people out there who help women breastfeed when there is an issue. I know I would have done a little better with support. Thanks for sharing this information here, we need to hear more from moms who have had to learn to breastfeed as opposed to have bf-ing come naturally and instinctively to them.

Good that you have achieved what you want. My experience is same as what Poonam mentioned, I started feeding my DS immedietely after 2 hrs of my C section delivery and continued for every 2 hours. My drs and Lacation consultant were so good on checking me whether i m producing enough supply. The nurses were too too too good for me, they thought me like a KG student, without them i simply cant imagine abt it.
But on the other side, my son was admitted in another hospital's NICU on his 3rd day (he had heart rate problem). I went there for breast feeding him, Since he was in NICU, they didnt allow anybody else other than me. The way the nurses behaved thr was horrible, my son was crying in his unit for milk and i dont know how to take him, latch him and feed. Trust me, i really begged the nurses to help me feeding my son, but none of the nurses helped me. I cried like anything for not able to feed my son, one of the nurses passed a very bad comment which i wld never forget in my life time, i got hurt very badly. We then decided to bring back our son from the hosp to my hosp and again i started BF him here and of course only with the help of the nurses. To me they are god sent and they helped me round the clock.
Again after coming home, IL is my best companion, i learn most of the things from here on how to feed. Thanks to IL and all the mommies here

Congrats..Nothing is more than be able to breast feed your baby...I totally understand how helpless you must have felt but am also glad that you were able to find help and succeed in it..Kudos to you..

EVen I had a C-section and even my son was in NICU for 10 days...He had lots of breathing issues and the doctors/nurses allowed me to breastfeed my DS only few times...But even those few times, NICU nurses were beside me trying to teach me how to breastfeed...I had terrible C-section pains and they helped me a lot in positioning and holding the baby to latch..DS was bottlefed most of the times for the first 10 days of his life...Thanks to my lactation consultant I learned how to latch him back onto my breast and with lots of cries from my baby and me. We both finally achieved it..

I couldn't have done it without the help of NICU nurses and lactation consultants..They are just awesome..I definitely owe them a lot.

It was really nice of you to have attempted to BF and succeed too. I am sure it was very fulfilling and your experience can be a gateway to moms who have not BF their baby from day one. The lactation consultants too are doing a good job, earlier we didn't have these facilities but one needs to make full use of them.
At the hospital where I delivered, I was put on training from the time I delivered, till about 12 am doctors, nurses checking if I am doing well, so I am really thankful to them to help my baby latch well and provide me the needed assistance to BF.

Congrats on succeeding in the BF adventure. I would say it is the first victory for any mom in ensuring a healthy lifetime for her child. If I am not asking for very personal info, can you please write more on how the lactation consultant managed to get the baby back to BF mode, weaned away from formula feed? Can you write about the methods she used? Was a feeding tube used? Also, how did she bring you back to relactation condition? I will be really grateful to learn more about this. Thanks a million in advance.

 

pls let me know the address. i will be very greatful to you as i am in serious trouble. my bay is five months old and stopped taking breast feeding. he was taking both breast feed and nan 1 as supplement but now he has totally stopped taking my feed i am very disappointed hence i kindly request u to send me the address
