    hi all,
first time mom here. dd is 2 months old. i know most question's answers will be around, but not able to find due to lack of time. so just posting my concerns here. hope to get answers :).
    1. i pump BM and store in fridge. then while giving, warm it as follows - swaddle the bottle in hot boiling water till milk is warm. my Q is - is it harmful for the baby? as in will she develop cold?
    2. started formula as my supply was not enough. nan 1. stools are green since starting. is it ok? if yes, till when will it be green.
    3. passes stools randomly. once in 2-3 days. is it expected? if yes, till when?
    4. has louding breathing. its been 1 month+ and past week its there the whole day. wat does it mean?
pls help me with answers. thanks in advance...

jhalli, I am trying to see if I understood your problems completely
    1. you pump milk for your LO and formula feed and you are not sure if you are prepping breastmilk right.
    2. you have green stools after including formula and irregular stools after including formula
    3. your child developed some noisy breathing the last month (was it after the formula was started?)

    1. the right way to get refigerated bm to room temperature is to a) heat some water in a bowl or a saucepan, dip the bottle with bm into the saucepan or bowl till the water level outside is more than the bm level inside and swirl the bottle gently till milk is room temp or a temp your child likes. Is this what you are doing. Then you are doing good. Dont shake the breastmilk. Your child will catch a cold ONLY with a virus, not by drinking cold things. DS - when he was 8 months old - preferred to have his milk straight from the fridge. He never had a cold at that point.
    2. If the green stools is followed with gassiness and some tummy swelling, I will ask the paed for another formula Rx. It could be cow's milk protein in the formula, there are formula preparations based either on soy or on broken down cow's milk that is gentler on the intestine.
    3. If the stridor is after starting formula, I will switch immediately and see if it goes away. Another mom has posted on this and other explained some children are born with stirdor which goes away as the child grows up. Have you had the stridor evaluated with the paed?
Do let us know if this is what you are looking for. Also, do let us know about your low supply and if you need any help in upping your supply. HTH.

    thanks for the reply tikka...
yea, the first Q was about the 'way to warm the BM'... i do just like you mentioned. but someone told me that way will give the baby a cold. so just wanted to clarify.

    2. reg. green stools, my friend who started the same said it was expected and that her baby passed stools once in 4 days till the age of 6 months. infact even a paed. dr told its safe to wait for 4-5 days if baby does not pass stools. hence im not too worried... but again, wanted to be on the safe side.

    3. i not sure what des stridor mean. sprry.. but can u explain that? is it harmful/dangerous?

    4. the loud breathing is there from the day she is born. her doc said it was normal. but somehow im not convinced coz everyone other than the doc says i should get it re-checked... it just increased over the last 3 days... while formula was started quite sometime back - so i dont think its 'coz of the formula.

    5. yes, i would love to know ways to increase the BM supply... i feed her abt 2 times of BM.. that too after pumping as i atleast know how much she is drinking...

waiting for answers.. thanks in advance :)

When DS was being combination fed, our paed asked us to see if he poops everyday. When we finally managed to get him on the breast exclusively he did go only once in 4 days. Formula is known to constipate some children. I will watch out.
Stridor is loud breathing, if it is from birth then it should go off on its own.
Is your child on your breast at all? Sorry, I am not sure I read your back story anywhere. Here is a link on getting baby back to breast. Even when you have latch or supply issues, it is best to get the baby on the breast first and then top up with formula till you are fairly sure you are making enough. Do write a little about how much you pump, why you pump, how often your child feeds... I can probably dig up some links that will work for you.
    HTH.

    Hi Dear,

Am pumping since Nov and I can throw some light on this.. When you take milk out of fridge I do like this..

    1. Show bottle in low cooling water(not immediatedly dropping into hot water)
    2. If you take it out from fridge do not put it in very hot water just warm water should suffix
    3. if you take it from freezer then yes you need to put it little hot water for 30min atleast
    4. then after bringing milk to room temp I pour this milk into a clean bottle and then feed my LO

am doing this since nov and my LO is doing fine.. once in a while even on BM rihtik passes green stools..

Adding - After delivery I even ordered ice cream for me but dh completed that.. I ate 2 spoons and nothing bad happend to me or LO.. Just dont worry.. Cheer up!!!

    thanks for replies all...
tikka - while i would like to increase BF, i dont think it would serve any purpose as i will have to join back work by march 1st week. she will anyways have to be on formula that time.
also, i do feed her BM twice a day atleast, but most of the times she gets hungry again within an hour. sso i guess its not filling her stomach.

That's a shame, especially since you do want to be able to bf her more - I am guessing it is difficult to set up pumping in your office... See what works for you... combination feeding is not necessarily a bad thing. Breastmilk is easily assimilated by the body in comparison to formula (their contents are not the same), so a child as young as your baby wanting to feed every hour is normal. Enjoy your babymoon with your LO.

Yup ... While breastfeeding .. you need to feed whenever your baby sings coz BM gets digested faster :) ..
You can add garlic to your diet it increases the milk production ... and feed your baby with BM as much as possible as its the best ..
my baby is 2 months 1 week old now :)
    Happy feeding
