    Hi Friends,

"I promise from now onwards, i'll pay attention that whatever we eat should be healthy."

I am sure most of us here must have made this promise to themselves or to their families this new year..

Now , what exactly this healthy food is ? Though we eat healthy food, but is it a balanced diet as well ? But I think most of the healthy food includes vegetarian food. Fruits and vegetables are rich source of nutrition and cover almost everything that a balanced diet consists of, but there are several other things which we get from other sources.

During school days we must have studied about the balanced diet that consists of some vital elements required for our body viz. proteins, fats, carbohydrates, vitamins , minerals, fibres, etc. Not one food can provide all the nutrients, so we have to eat foods which could have all these nutrients.

Healthy Food is also classified in different groups viz. Fruits and vegetables, cereals, salt, sugar, dairy foods, poultry foods. Combination of all these in an optimum quantity will lead to good health.

Its not EAT LESS, its EAT HEALTHY .

I wish if we all could share how we have changed our diet into a healthy diet this season rather this year...( I know it is your resolution this year, whether you tell or not )

    Hi,

To start with I have made a menu, in which I have tried to include all the food groups.

Our breakfast includes fresh fruits and vegetable juice, bread, eggs, fruit salad, sprouts, cornflakes, poha, milk etc.

Lunch includes chapatis, gravy dish, salad, green vegetable curry, Rice once a week, idli sambhar once a week etc.

In evening if I get time I make soups of seasonal vegetables which is again very healthy and good during winters.

Dinner will be light and includes any pulse, chapatis, salad.

My hubby and I have also decided that we will not eat non-veg more than once a week.( It was twice or thrice in a week till now which has lead to increased weight of us).

This is my simple menu. I have and will try my best to adhere to it. I think I have covered all the essential nutrients in my menu.

    What have you planned friends??

    hi deepali
nice topic. yeah, we all start every year with great resolutions and sadly, give up just after a few days or weeks. this is because we make too big resolutions and get too excited about it and end up doing nothing. we must always start slowly and take one step at a time.

    Hi,

Many of us are trying here to cook in lesser oil.. But how do you manage to cook gravy dishes in less oil.. Even for soups, some butter is required, so do you make soups without it..

I am also waiting for your replies..

    Hi Deepali,

this is a very informative forum you have posted, i have been watching my diet for the past 2yrs now but got extremely serious since last year.

I am vegetarian but i do eat eggs once or twice a week for protien

    This is what i follow:
Breakfast:- When i wake up i boil water and drink a glass of hot water on
an empty stomach,an hour before my breakfast i have fresh
melon juice with grapes in it, then after an hour i have a bowl
of papaya that is one papaya. After that i have oats or
porridge what we call i have it on monday, wednesday and
fridays, i do not add sugar to it but little cinnamon powder.
Then i have one roasted chappati or one egg or left over of
dinner but in a small portion and half cup tea.

snack:- at 10.30am one bowl salad with shredded lettuce, grated carrots,
chopped cucumber, chopped red pepper or any coloured pepper adn
chopped white onions with salt and pepper. ( i have my snack early
as i have to leave for my class at 11am and i come back at
    12.30pm)

Lunch:- monday and friday i have boiled vegetables ( i put cabbage, carrots,
snow peas and french beans). Tuesday and thursday i have boiled
green grams. Wednesday and saturday i have chappati or any other
meal i prefer to have like pasta or so on. I have half a banana
    everyday after lunch

Dinner:- I have one bowl home made vegetable soup ( it consists of all
veggies esp cabbage, celery, lauki, carrots, onion, tomatos and
other veggies) i do not add oil to it but when heating the soup i
add butter to it and half cup tea, after an hour of dinner i have
an apple. Before i go to bed i drink a glass of hot water.

Through out the day i drink 2 litres of hot water. i exercise everyday for one and half hours in the evening.i do aerobics, i do training with my personal trainer. Sometimes when i am hungry i eat a handful of peanuts, since i am allergic to certain foods i stick to the above, i can't have lemon, tamarind or anything citric.

    love
    alpa:cheers
